Noob in water cooling?

Thread Starter
hi all
i just wanted to know , is water cooling good comparing it to air cooling (performance to price)

and how much a good water cooling system can cost , considering it the best setup for the price (like the CM 212+ in air cooling)

and can my V4 black handle water cooling , or how can someone know if a case can handle water cooling system

sorry for the stupid questions , but i really do not know anything about it

thanks all

V4 Wont really fit any rads inside. Are you ok with external rads?

And budget?

For medium OC say 4GHz it is not optimal to buy WC, but if you want silent PC running even in heavy demanding programs (games also) you want to look at WC as it has much more heat dispersion than regular cooling.

And the silence of whole system, not hearing the 50+ dB fans when ingame, that is worth more than a price of WC.

The XSPC 750 RS240 kit is popular choice for starting in water cooling because it contains everything needed and is relatively easy to get setup. It costs about $120 and has blocks for just CPU. Obviously this has a higher entry cost compared to the CM 212+ which can be had for $25. If picking out each CPU block, radiator, pump, resovoir, fittings, and tubing you can easily go over $250 for the high end stuff. Compare that to the high end air coolers (D14, Silver Arrow, etc.) at $80, the cost curve is significant.

I think your V4 can handle the RS240 if you mount the fans externally. To see if your case can handle water cooling, you need to figure out how much stuff you need to put in. It needs space to mount radiators, fans, resovoir and pump. Radiators being the tricky one in most cases. It may be tricky to add more radiators in the V4 without modding + external mounting if you wished to cool GPU. If just CPU, I think there's clearance for the RS240 kit.

I'll just add my [b]opinions[b] here.

If you're looking at water-cooling from a pure price to performance ratio, it is almost never worth it. You sink easily double, triple, even quadruple the amount of money into a water loop to net, at the most extreme as far as I know, 15Cs of coolness. Going beyond that is exponentially more expensive for less effectiveness.

Water-cooling provides very cool, extremely stable temps (especially when comparing load temps), but they are, in the end, unnecessary for most computer uses.

So, given these reasons, why do people do it?

For me, it's because it's fun and sometimes challenging. I like knowing I can somehow merge two seemingly contradictory elements in water and electricity for the better.

In the end, I'd suggest doing this only if you actually love computer mangling . In that case - kudos, and have fun!
