4.8GHZ OC stable on Prime95, Unstable for Folding. Help!

Thread Starter
I recently built my new work computer. It's the rig in my sig below. Basically I finally got it to be stable in Prime95 over a 9 hour test period. My temps never reached above 65 degrees. Then I started folding again on Friday just before I left for the weekend. It was folding for 3-4 hours running a -bigadv on 8 cores. The temps were between 63-68 degrees with core number 3 occasionally reaching 71-72 degrees everyone once in a while. I came in today to find the computer shut down. I checked my blue screen viewer and it had nothing recorded for this weekend. Below is screen shots of my current bios settings. I feel like 1.41 is super high for my vcore. Can anyone please help me figure this out?

Did you run Prime95 on blend with max memory [that's how its typically advised to run]? You should really run it for 18+ hours, preferably 24 if you're going to be folding with it 24/7 - 9 hours isn't stable IMO. You'll probably need ~ 1.45v as is fairly common at 4.8.

I only needed 1.392V for my 4.8GHz.

Awkwardly Awesome: to run Prime95's Blend test with "max memory" as he stated, select the Custom test and enter in 7168MB (exactly 7GB). All of the other "Custom" settings should be left where they are.

It sounds like instability from voltage. I also agree with maybe bumping it up to ~1.45v. You might also have a heat issue then since you would be around a constant 80 degrees+.

You might want to think about at least a cpu water cooling solution for long constant use at a high overclock. I had a 2U server with xeons overclocked alot and even though stress tests came back okay they would become unstable and reboot 18 hours afterwards. I got a water cooling solution and walla no issues.

I already am watercooled. I do need to upgrade my 200mm fan though as the stock one that comes with the 600T case is garbage. I also might redo the thermal paste on my CPU. Just to see if the temps drop at all.

What TIM are you using? I've been running prime95 for the last 11 hours on my i5 @ 4.7ghz w/ 1.4v, and it's gotten up to 66C, so I'd say you're doing pretty good w/ 2600k faster clocks, more volts. I'm using this EVGA frostbite, and i'm not impressed.

Run Blend Custom, typing in at least 6000MB, since you have 8GB. Then let in go for 12 hours + before you declare it stable.

It's running right now on 7700MB, I am going to let it run until tomorrow when I come in.

I also recommend setting Duty Control to "Extreme", and CPU Current Capability to 110% at minimum.
