TX650 v2 died >.<

So I woke up today, and saw my PC was turned off, there was something being downloaded.

Examined every component, and found the almost new Corsair TX650 v2 dead. There was a burning smell coming out of it >.<<br />
Corsair PSUs are not available here, so RMA is not possible. I bought it from USA, and shipping it to USA would cost a lot, I'd be able to buy a good new PSU with that money.

The best PSUs available here within my budget ($90):
XFX PRO550W Core Edition
Thermaltake ****

What do you guys say? I think going for the XFX one would be better. Need opinions.

I would personally go for the XFX. They seem to be a bit more solid as far as PSU's go.

Uh, XFX Pro/Core Edition 650/750/850 are the same as the Corsair TX 650/750/850 V2. That's a higher-end design than the XFX Core Edition 450/550, though I'm not sure if that speaks to the quality control or typical build quality, but I wouldn't expect the 550W to be more reliable than the unit you had. You just got unlucky.

If you get an XFX unit, it will be by the same OEM (Seasonic) as the TX650 V2.

Regardless, the XFX is still probably the best of those available.

You're essentially getting the same PSU with a different sticker, but if it's what it takes. tongue.gif

Corsair is known for pretty good customer service. I think it's worth a shot to contact them and see if you can get them to prepay the shipping for you since it is so expensive. That's not standard procedure and I wouldn't expect them to say yes, but there is always a chance with their customer service track record.

I'd do this even if you buy the XFX unit, as you might as well have the Corsair you paid for as a back-up, if possible.
