my newest upgrade from athlon II X2 into phenom II X4 955BE

already tune and tweak over a week with pain, headache and full of after going from BIOS....at last after a week i have found my lucky charm number both in temps and speed (i have OC it from default speed 3.2Mhz until 3.6Mhz with temps under 60C) with minimal parts also economic (for cooling processor i only using coolermaster hyper 212 dual fans custom).....it still not 100% good and stable though you can tell it crude and raw tuning hehehe (my PSU is 500w but not pure i guess)

Welcome to OCN!

check out this chart: http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/59...ram-chart.html

If you can change your memory multiplier to be at 5.33 and run the memory closer to the 1333mhz it is you should see a performance increase. What are the stock timings for your memory?

Also you should be able to run the cpu/nb multiplier up a notch as well - my C2 chip can run just under 2800mhz, your chip being C3 should be able to do it as well

Lastly, fill out the computer specs in your user control panel - your sig is too long I think & I dont want to see a mod scold you

Anyways, congrats on your overclock, now lets see if we can help make it better :-D

well, thanks wardicus!...first of all i came from indonesia and lived in town called jakarta! i build my rig by tight budget from zero and mostly parts from my computer is cheap (i mean cheap it's really cheap that even junior grade can buy it also it's local brand! you wouldn't know it even if i tell it) but i use my CPU for critical use being office assets in my house (i'm freelancer audio&video editor also graphic designer and gamer also) so i realize i don't have many budget to buy good parts at same time (it's like one item upgrade per three months i can buy for my CPU) last month is my biggest allowance to upgrade processor from athlon 2 x2 into phenom class. anyway thanks for congrats and i will try my best to give best infos from now on....though this is not 100%!! i still wanna buy few items like new cooler processor, PSU and good case see you in the next proggress... i will give pic of my rig in some other time

MSI does not ratify this board for 125W Phenom II x4 955 operation! This is due to the low quality 3+1 phase which is KNOWN FOR FAILURES on high TDP processors!

You need to take out that 955 and stop overclocking, and continue to use the Athlon II x2 until you can find a new motherboard with proper 125W support (at least a quality 4+1 phase - cooled if you overclock. Read up on the "About VRMs & MOSFETs" link in my sig). Otherwise you are taking a huge risk as not only is the configuration unsafe but won't be protected by warranty as you are using a totally unprotected processor.

Sorry if I had to welcome you like this, but it's better that you know the facts than you fry the motherboard's VRMs on you without much notice of it happening, and be in real trouble then.

See for yourself what could happen
(Scroll down and marvel at the large "confirmed failures" list)

It helps to do proper research before making such purchases; I spent an entire summer researching before I built my PC two Septembers ago (note that the parts have changed since then). The AMD Motherboard VRM Info List resource (in my sig) states that this MSI 740G board supports up to 95W TDP only and your particular processor is not even on the support list - and for good reason, the VRMs are way too weak.
Ensure your processor is at stock and use the stock cooler, avoid placing heavy loads (i.e. stability tests), underclock if you can, before you can get a different mobo.

thanks man! almost a day i doing some research in different forums also! and i get similar objections like you.....and thank god that i already tune it back into stock speed which is 3.2Mhz.....thanks man for your concern! OC rocks!!

LOL! I blew up my MSI board running 4.2GHz in two weeks on water... VRM's shorted out the +12v stuff... LOL!

Yes, be very careful with MSI, no overclocking 125w in a 95w board...

That board can handle a normal 95w 955 BE, I dunno if yours is 125w or not.
The cpu support list contains 2 125w thubans but not worth risking. Keep it at stock for the time being. Overclocking with Uncooled vrm+mosfets is not a good idea anyway.
