Installing SSD, fresh OS install

Thread Starter
I bought an OEM copy of Windows 7 professional x64 which says it's a 30pk, and I have only installed it once on my original hard drive. I just recently ordered a ssd which I plan to do a clean install of Windows 7 on and I was wondering if I could just use the same Windows 7 cd that I used for my original hard drive. Will it still activate as a genuine copy of Windows? Thanks in advance!

No, OEM only allows one install.

Should work. Just might need to call 1-800 number and go through a sequence of verifying codes. Then your copy will be registered on that system. I have re installed mine over 12 times already with 5 different boards, different cpu's, HDD, ect. Long as its on the same system it legal. Heck, sometimes when I unlock a core i have to re verify my copy through the 1-800 number.

30PK? Shouldn't the code be valid for 30 machines, then?

Anyway, as Chuckclc said, the restrictions aren't as limiting as you might originally think.

What they both said. A hdd to sdd change isn't a large enough change for you to need to get another license. And as stated if it doesn't let you activate, just call them up and tell them.

As an alternative, if your ssd is large enough, and you can shrink your current hdd partitions to just under the size of the ssd, you could just clone it from hdd to ssd, and avoid reactivation all together.

Shouldn't give you any issues.
Worst case you will have to activate by phone, where it asks you "How many computers is this copy of Windows installed on?". Upon providing the correct answer, it will hand over the activation code.
