Its called horribly regulated and outdated patent laws and I do mean HORRIBLY. Apple patented the premise of the multi-touch capacitive touch screen recently. Too bad it was around in the 1970's. Or the company that patented using code to format text in documents. COBOL (and everything else that formats text) says hello.

Funny how Apple has infringed on as many patents as the people they sue.

This is standard practice by all companies when it comes to patents. If it is not Apple, it is Rambus. If it is not Rambus, it is Bethesda. If you have beef, you are barking up the wrong tree by blaming Apple. You want to point fingers correctly? Try pointing it at the patent office and our laws regarding patents. As long as that does not get changed, this will continue by every company that owns vague patents.

Well since Apple can block any competitor, I don't think there would be a lot of technology advancement.

Seriously, should people be trying to positively spin the fact that Apple is trying to force its competitors out of the market on phones and tablets through some of the worst patent trolling this nation has ever seen?! What is it you're trying to say? Should the news just stop reporting on Apple for a few weeks?
It's because its Apple, and the trend is going from people flaming Apple to people flaming anyone who hates on apple, whether its deserved or not.

Indeed it needs to change.

However, Apple is still abusing the system and deserves the bad rap, as does RAMBus, etc.

Who ever said that Apple is the only patent troll? We know the patent system is completely broken. That does not justify patent trolls.

I don't know what kind of pendulums you've encountered. It seems to me that Apple hate side swings MUCH, MUCH further than Apple love.

While I would love a perfect world, I must admit it seems like this is the price you must pay for new tech to become popular. I see Apple as the great advertising agency, that will take a relatively new or older forgotten design, refresh it and market the crap out of it, thus making it's appeal much larger and opening up the market for competitors to get in on the tablet (or other) market that is now booming. Before the iPad I saw nearly no mentions of any form of tablet computing device. While the whole situation isn't quite as simple as that, it captures a lot of what really is happening.

I'm sure I will be rabidly disagreed with, especially with the hopeful claims that the tablet market was not exponentially increased by Apple. People turn a blind eye to anything they don't like. If you choose a side and alienate yourself from opposing things you will always be unhappy with the current state of affairs, or you will be disadvantaging yourself. I buy the things I want for my own reasons, as long as who I'm buying from isn't committing mass murder or child slavery, etc. I don't see playing a broken system as a grave moral quandry when it comes to companies, I rather see it as an opportunity to expose issues int eh system and rectify them. I'm sure there are more than enough rabid fanboys on this site to get a message out if they would only apply themselves rather than complain on internet boards where the ideas will go unheard by people in positions to make a difference.
