just shift the clocks (all 3 of them) up and down and see what the noise does - with a small underclock you may make it silent.

I thought it was kinda handy when folding on my 285s, if the squealing stopped it was an audible indicator of a driver crash.

Turn v-sync on in games and that should solve it ... at least when gaming. If it doesn't, then the issue is likely the PSU (or possibly the mobo) rather than the GPU.

That won't help w/the desktop though, can't help you there frown.gif
