CRT vs 120Hz. For FPS. - Page 5

FW900 is great, using one right now. I also own the 120hz samsung 2233rz. Although there is no ghosting that I can tell, in games like tf2 as a sniper I would typically get the first shot vs another sniper on my crt, but with the lcd it's a little slower. Although the FW900 is great the problem is I don't know how long it will last. The current best 120hz is the acer GD235HZ. Might be worth it to check it out. It's costly though.

But I guess I'll keep looking.
How much should I be looking for? $8~900?
Don't let the 22.5 fool you, it's plenty. You can sit alot closer and not have to deal with IPS glow and TN viewing angles. Remember this isn't a monitor for surfing the web or even watching movies. This is for getting the most out of your games.

I'd budget $500 AT THE ABSOLUTE MOST. $150 to $300 is usually what they will sell for.

Couple things to keep in mind:

*90 lbs and the bezels get dented and scuffed just by looking at them. Don't worry about the bezel (can be replaced) worry about the glass

*Many have the anti glare removed. This usually equals better colors but worse blacks. I don't have a strong opinion about it either way (I own both)

Research, research, research and buy from someone you trust.

I came from a 23" 120hz and I am not going back from 60hz @ 1600P.
It's significantly better overall and has quite good response times, I am picky and its been a phenomenal gaming monitor.

1080P is too thin for me now.

Check ebay and allofcraigs.com

Pro tip: search for "24 inch CRT monitor"

Where do you live?

Fixed to apply to my situation. Sucks living in finland. Really does

But really, I'm surprised at the amount of OCNers who seem to have the FW900 now. Just in the last week, I've seen 6 new people with it, when previously I saw none.

I'm not trying to really go against what seems to be the consensus in this thread, but I haven't found the image quality of CRTs that amazing. Back when my 2070sb was my only monitor, I thought it was great for everything. But since getting a NEC IPS panel, the CRT has become the secondary monitor in everything except action gaming. I think the IPS LCDs superior for just about any other application. Better colors, sharper fonts and less eye fatigue. Whether I'm "working", image editing or watching movies, a properly calibrated LCD smokes those cathode tubes out of the water.

But for action games, yes, CRTs seems still to be quite irreplaceable. Oh and don't forget the muscular strength you gain from hauling that monster around.

P.S. This review of Sony FW900 is really hilarious.

It's an LCD Monitor with an LED backlight. Still a TN panel...

Your LCD is calibrated. Make sure your CRT is calibrated, has a tube that is in good condition, and properly focused. Only then can you make the proper comparison. Have you done this? (asking out of curiosity). How old is it? What kind of upkeep have you done on it?
