CRT vs 120Hz. For FPS. - Page 6

My only experience with IPS is a HP zr24w that's currently sitting in the spare bedroom waiting to get sent back to Amazon. Right next to each other the zr24w just blew the FW900 out the water. I couldn't believe how much sharper and brighter everything was.

Once I started gaming I couldn't deal with the glowing corners, antiglare, and blur. I had to sit so far back from the monitor to eliminate the corner glow that it was pointless for gaming. The blur gave me a headache in LoL and CSS. The antiglare made everything look tinted and glittery.

For websites, movies, and work CRT was beaten a long time ago. For gaming nothing can touch it.

The reason why I use my CRTs is: I hate ghosting and input lag, I love the high resolution for browsing (and I can't afford 30" monitors), and I really can't afford even a single U2410. And I would most likely have my current setup rather than two U2410s for example. Because I browse more than I game and the high resolution is just great. And the text is quite sharp, surprisingly. Of course nothign compared to the TN 1920x1200 LCD on my desk, but the TN has such awkward colors that I cannot use it for anything but temp / stat monitoring and chats and third screen for eyefinity (since i cannot see it so clearly with peripheral). I don't consider the slightly blurry text (and I do mean, slightly) as such a big issue compared to the low resolution of 1920x1200.

All in all, the three CRTs I have cost me 60€. Since I can't drop the money for a 30", I'll stay with this for a while. It's comfortable here. I have no need to go anywhere.

A point here is though, the FW900 will remain superior to any 120hz TN in gaming performance.

eh I would say slighty inferior. Given the trade offs of having more space on my desk, better image quality in new games with shiny graphics, and less eye strain from staring at the monitor. I'll take the inferior LCD because with the new 120hertz they do really feel quite smooth and good.

Good point. I have no idea how old it is, as i've bought it used. The colors are calibrated, but I haven't done anything to the focus. I didn't know I could..

Depends on the model.

Also can increase the gun output. Will kill the tube faster but produce a brighter image. Again depends on the model

Is it possible on the Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070SB? (just looked it up and it seems so). If so, what's the best pattern to display on screen when adjusting?

I do not recommend increasing the gun output, but the focus might prove to be useful. I have no idea tbh, though. I became a monitor enthusiast 9 months ago, not 10 years ago.

Ask manyak, metallicamaster3, or someone like that. They have far more experience with CRTs
