Here's the video so you can see how smoothly it actually plays.

Also, you may want to look into which GT 555M is in that MSI since there are different variants.

144 cores 709MHz (GF106), 128Bit GDDR5 z.B. MSI GT780R
144 cores 590MHz (GF106), 192Bit DDR3 z.B. Dell XPS 17, Alienware M14x
144 cores 590MHz (GF106), 128Bit DDR3 z.B. Schenker XMG A501 / A701 (Clevo W150HRM / W170HN)
96 cores 753MHz (GF108), 128Bit GDDR5 z.B. Lenovo Y570p / Y560p

Actually all I know it's most probably 2GB DDR3. Couldn't find any more info about it.

And since I had two models of the same laptop I think I'm more concerned about the CPU. I just realised the i5 one has two cores but it has HT so it has four threads. Looking into comparisons it seems like i5 beats the i7 where there isn't many threads needed as i5 has higher clocks. Link to the comparison: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-...st.2436.0.html

Your video proved that the GPU is up to the job and since there is no difference between the i5 and i7 CPUs despite 3DMark06 CPU score then I believe I have convinced myself that the cheaper one is the way to go

Thanks. I would still love more info considering these two CPUs (i7 2630QM vs. i5 2410M) though

Edit: 1000 posts

I would really like to keep it local. If I go ordering from other countries and my laptop breaks I'm in trouble. Also once again, when the package comes over the border it gets taxed (happened with my DAC, first price was around 230€.. after tax it was 280€, ordered from UK).

I went with the quad over the dual for longevity. Also some games that I play utilized the additional cores [Final Fantasy XIV]. Since I tend to run a lot of things in the background I also prefer to have that headroom even if it is clocked a tad lower, I think its only 300mhz diff compared to the i5 but has the same turbo clock for single core of 2.9ghz and I think the dual core turbo clock in these is 2.6ghz thus making it better than the i5 if you can manage to get turboclock to kick in for 2 cores doing what you want to do.

Edit: Also a lot of benches I have seen peg the i5 2410M performance at ~ that of the i3 540 desktop CPU where the i7 2630QM is at ~ that of the i5 2400 desktop CPU.

That concludes it, I'm getting the i5 one. I'm not too good keeping my hardware so the laptop will get replaced by a new one in a couple of years

Edit: The reason I don't want to spend 200€ (~300usd) to get a quad core is that I'm going to university and I want to save as much money as I can.

That's good if all you plan to do is game since they're all GPU limited. But for other tasks, the i7 was the choice for me since I use it for other processes that are more CPU intensive as well.

I saw that review also and since theyre using a GT 540M, wasn't really a worthwhile comparison for me considering it's a whole class lower than the 555M.

You see how in BC2 theyre getting 35 fps across the board when I was getting 45-50 on high, that means that the 540M is messing up the framerates for all their tests thus not showing the real CPU potential. If you can find a review with all the cpus showing the same framerate with the 555M I'd bite, but not with a GPU limited system like what they were using.

It's a laptop for gaming basically. Minecraft, BC2 for now and Skyrim, BF3 later on

And I'm not saying i5 would be as good as the i7 but for me it just isn't worth it considering the price.

Thanks for your help, made my decision now so I'm good
