Timetable for CPU RMA

Thread Starter
Has anyone ever done an RMA on a CPU from Newegg?

It says it could take 3-4 days of "processing" time, but I wanted to see if others had real-world results.

They received the defective CPU today and it was "approved" - I just want to know how much longer my new build has to sit in my living room in parts.

You should have done the immediate replacement option.

What I do is call them up, explain the issue, they give me RMA and shipping label, I then give them my CC info and they ship out the new item immediately. They don't charge the CC unless they dont receive the defective item in 30 days. But that way there's no waiting around. You do have to wait 3-4 days after they receive the item to get your refund, but there's no waiting for the new item.

PS what was wrong with the cpu?

I did an advanced RMA on my case (HAF 912 - the front plastic piece was chipped during shipping) but didn't for the CPU. It mostly had to do with my reasoning for sending it back.

I actually don't know if the CPU was defective because I never installed the CPU. The box I received had scotch tape all of it (the factory seal was in tact) and I could see thru the plastic CPU holder what looked like thermal paste on the chip already.

To me, the chip looked used, but I know resellers can be pretty picky about returns. So I wasn't exactly sure if Newegg was going to take it back or not.

Turns out they did - and as of this moment, the new CPU "order" has been charged - so I'm assuming it will either ship tonight or tomorrow.

I would think you would have it by the end of the week at the latest. An I dont blame you for sending it back, I probably would have as well.

Aye, that sounds shady. Should be a nice fresh boxed cpu.

Fyi so you are aware in the future, Newegg will pretty much take anything back if you tell them somethings wrong. World class customer service, seriously. I wouldn't worry about getting an RMA denied if you have a decent reason.

Always call them too. I tried to do an RMA for a defective product online and they were gonna charge me a % restocking fee. I called them and said it's defective, they took it off no questions no problems. Free return shipping, immediate replacement, no hassle, you just cant get any better than that.

I was unfortunate to have to return 3 PSUs and a mobo just to get my rig working, and each RMA was as smooth as the last one (yeah, 3 psu's... mad unlucky..... fortunately I had an old working PSU so I could more easily narrow it down).
