Sorry to necro but I just started playing again since it's winter break, I love this game but right now I'm really rusty. Just lost in 2 turns to a level 1 player rusty, wondering if anybody wants to play a couple games and perfect strategies and such if so hit up this thread or pm me.
I think its worth the price if you liked the base game. Otherwise, wait for a sale.
It adds a new unit, a riot shield unit, if it stays still, it will bring up a shield that acts just like a wall. You can bounce granades off the shield, provide cover for other units, cover windows, hallways, or storm rooms where you know there is an enemy. I really like it. The riot shield unit does not have any weapon however.
The DLC also adds a new campaign consisting of over 15 levels and some challenges.
It also adds CO-OP against the AI! Which is a great addition IMO. you can play the original or the new campaign with a friend, and only one of you need to own the DLC in order to play.
Another neat feature are the "mutators" which change the game mechanics, for instance, "focus aim". On the base game if two walking units see each other at the exact same time, it is random who will win, however, with "focus aim" mutator, it takes into account where each unit was "aiming", the one that was aiming closest to the enemy unit will win. I like this mutator because it removes the only "random" mechanic from the game.
There is also a new game mode for multiplayer, i have not tried it yet. Both teams have a unit they have to escort. The unit must "hack" a terminal, if he is sucesfull, you win the game, however, he can be killed.
Also at the same time the DLC come out, mode 7 updated the base game. Now you have "hotseat" mode, so you can play with a friend on the same computer. Option for timed turns, so you have X amount of time to prime your turn.
Mode 7 also added a "pre-set" map, there is currently only one, but there are more on its way. As you may now, maps on Frozen Synapse are procedurally generated. "pre-set" maps are non-randomised maps for multiplayer, basically.
