Thread Starter
Hope this is the right location for this topic

I just bought my niece a laptop for college and I was hoping to get some input on software. Is there anything I can preload on here that would be helpful for her. So far the only thing I know of is MS Office. any advise will help

thanks

MS Office, iTunes etc.
Unless she has software she needs for specific classes etc.
I'd do a clean install of the OS to get all the bloat off of it and then go from there.

MS Office
Adobe Flash/Reader
Cute PDF Writer
Silverlight
VLC Media Player codecs/player
Quicktime/iTunes
Firefox or Chrome (whichever she uses)
Antivirus (Avira, Microsoft Security Essentials, or Avast! are probably the best free)
Messenger Service (Aim, Live Messenger, Yahoo)
Teamviewer/Logmein incase she needs you to login and fix a problem

This list is what I install on my friend's computers if i ever have to reload them. This allows them to play almost all audio/video formats, manager music, view pdf, print to pdf, play flash video/games, play silverlight sites, good AV Protection, and remote support.
