Max OC 4.0 GHz. Bad mobo?

Today I got my longed for w3680. Started overclocking right away just to get dissapointed again.
No matter what settings I use it wont run above 4.0 GHz. The same as my last cpu (i7 975x).
No problem booting into win even at 4.6 GHz, but as soon as I start running Prime, Linx or any other cpu dependant program it will crash.
Running at 4.0 is no problem. I am starting to see the common denominator here. The mobo.
Changed my ram a few months ago with no improvement. Today I changed the cpu. The same bad results this time.

In case I was to get another mobo. What would you recommend? It has to get along with the w3680 cpu.

Thanks, but I've tried bumping vcore all the way up to 1.5v, PLL to 1.9v, VTT to 1.40v.
At the moment I am running Prime at 4.0 GHz with 1.225v vcore. No, why would the rig become unstable at 4.2 GHz even at 1.5v then? It has no problem booting into win at 4.4 GHz with 1.37v but just wont run Prime there, even if I bump vcore to 1.5v.
i get errors in Linx at 1.5v, then I lower vcore one notch an still get the same error. Lower again and still getting errors. This would normaly get BSOD, but no, still errors only.
Seems to run fine when the PC is newly started and cold. As soon as it gets som heat, it will start giving errors or BSOD.
Yet I have fitted an extra fan to cool the NB.

Could be the motherboard if you have done all that along with switching out 2 processors.

Asrock is a good company and I had one of their P45 boards yet they only seem to give u "good overclocks", u can't get any great ones out of them.

Did some searching. Only found one person managed to get stability above 4.0 GHz.

Ordered an Asus x58 Sabertooth today. Gonna cry like a baby if it won't clock better.

Seem to overclock like a beast. If i do not get better results with this board, I dunno what I will do.

Got the Sabertooth yesterday. Running 4.4 with no problem. Tried 4.5 this morning but got BSOD 050 @ 1.38v vcore. Gonna try raising it tonight.
Safe to say the Sabertooth is a much better overclocker than the Asrock board.
