Build in question

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I know this is OCN and all, but I have a question. I need a PC for all the upcoming titles this fall: BF3, dota2, skyrim, diablo, swtor, you get the picture. I know one of the builds I'm looking at will run 3 of the 5 perfect, but what about BF3 and Skyrim? I'm trying to sell an HP Envy 14 laptop, but if it doesn't go through I'm going to have to build a smaller PC, literally.
My budget is $500 if my laptop doesn't sell and $1100 if it does. No MIR. I'm currently looking at NewEgg Prices.
This is what I want:

Chassis- TJ08e Case: $99.00
CPU- i5 2500k: 219.00
Video Card- ASUS 6950 AMD (already own)
MOBO- ASUS Maximus IV Gene-z: $169.99-179.99 (newegg wont let me buy it solo, jerks)
SoundCard Headset- ASUS Xonar Xense Combo: $299.99
RAM-Mushkin E.B 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600L: $54.99
PSU- still not sure
HDD- Samsung 1tb f3: $59.99
CPU Cooler- Corsair h60?: $69.88
Cheapo Keyboard Needed!

This is what I might have to get:
Case- SG05BB-450: $119
CPU- i5 2500: $209.00
Video Card- ASUS 6950 (Already own)
Mobo- Foxconn H67S H67: $64.99
RAM- Mushkin E.B 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1600L: $54.99
PSU- With Case (450 Bronze Cert)
HDD- Samsung 1tb f3: $59.99
CPU Cooler- Scythe SCKZT-1000 80mm Kozuti CPU Cooler: $39.99
Keyboard- Something Cheap

Would the iTX be able to run those games on a 1080p screen fine? I'm really hoping the Laptop will sell for the extra cash. About both builds, besides the graphic card is there anything else I can change to save on money? Thanks guys.

both are fine for gaming as you got a 2500k and a 6950 in both which is the main things that define your gaming performance, the gfx card being the main component.

you can try and get 4GB 1600 RAM in the cheaper build and put it towards a PSU like the Corsair HX650. The cooler on the budget build and other build are not what I would go for.
I would choose the Xigamtek aegir budget and noctua d14 other.

I wont actually have a 2500k in my cheaper build, but the 2500. It's the H67 platform so I can't really OC and it's the locked chip too, so I may as well save $19 dollars.

-edit-
Oh and the case I have already comes with a PSU I've been told both by silverstone and the [H]ocp forums that the SilverStone PSU included should do well enough to power a 6950, but I do want to unlock it.

Alright, thanks bud. Just didn't want to buy this and have a huge regret when those select titles arrive.

no worries
as you know GPU is the most important factor in games
find out of your PSU can handle a 6950 unlocked and if it can then do that for extra boost

If you have the desire to overclock at all, you might get the 2500K in the cheaper build as well just for the future. If you get some money, you could then just buy a new board and cooler and start OC'ing, as opposed to one day having the money to OC and needing a nearly full-scale upgrade.

Also, really no need for an after-market cooler if you're not going to OC the i5-2500 chip in the cheaper build. And definitely no need to spend $40 if you do insist, since you could get a hyper 212+ for $25 or so. I would still try to find a way to fit the i5-2500k and a Biostar TP67XE mobo into the cheaper build. Perhaps go with a cheap case like the NZXT Gamma for ~$40 and one of the ~500W PSU's in the recommended list here on these forums for $40-$50 to free up a little bit of cash.
