Sometimes my motherboard detects problem and won't boot, why?

A while back I installed a custom liquid cooling loop. Long story short I took the motherboard (Asus rampage extreme iii) out and set it on a styrofoam cube, it stayed there for about a week and we didn't even touch it. Funny thing is we just about abused the cards getting the blocks on there and when we put it all back together the motherboard was dead... but the cards were perfect and we didn't even mess with the motherboard. But anyway I RMA'd the board and got a new one.

So the new one comes in and right away I start having problems. The red led's on the right kept detecting an issue with the RAM. Which is actually why I RMA'd the first one but the ram had already been tested ok including other ram as well. So I turned it off and back on and it booted up!!! So I was happy and then a few days later the same problem... it wouldn't boot because it detected an issue with the ram and I turned it off (including the psu) and turned it on and booted up right away. Now I have had this board for a good 3-4 months now and it has on and off been doing this. It does boot eventually, sometimes I have to give it a few tries. But it only occurs every few weeks and not often. One thing I noticed is it always does it if you turn it off and then try to turn it on quickly when it shuts down, you have to let it sit for a bit or it won't boot.

So it is definately functional but there is still something weird going on does anyone have any explanation?

Just a guess but, do you have a replacement CMOS battery that you could test?
A weak battery could cause something like that... is just weird that ASUS would send you an RMA with a weak battery on it.
