About to get the Thunderbolt - Page 2

Well I'm on the road a lot and I appreciate the fact that From i95 in Miami all the way to i95 in NJ I can stay in 3g with no issues. Same goes for when I'm in middle of nowhere VA, GA, SC and NC.

I can assure you right now Sprint is living the life without caps, but if they do decide to move to LTE I assure you they will end up putting caps on the bandwidth. Feeding each cell site with true Ethernet backhaul, and then watching it get gobbled up by 10 phones, ya, there is a cap coming.

I would skip the Thunderbolt. My sister had it and the battery life was so bad that she switched to the Droid Charge, which has a much nicer screen. If you have to buy now, go charge, if you can wait go bionic.

Since the OP wants to stay with Verizon I would say that waiting for either the Moto Bionic or the Samsung Galaxy is good advice. Also consider there should be a very nice HTC coming out later this year called the Vigor.

Now I do have a Thunderbolt and for all the nay sayers its still a great phone. The kick stand comes in handy and the over all look and feel is very nice. I for one will stick to buying HTC phones for the time being. And yes I do need to charge my phone for awhile during the day but thats far from a deal breaker IMO.

If you do need an LTE device right now, consider the Samsung Droid Charge or LG Revolution. If you could wait, Droid Bionic or the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S II.

I have the Thunderbolt and its a great phone, but yes, the battery life is bad, bad, bad. Luckily I'm normally somewhere I can charge the phone at least during parts of the day so I've really had no issues of it going dead on me.

Avoid the Tbolt like the plague. Even HTC can't get their Gingerbread update working properly on it, and the current OS reboots on occasion without any reason.

And finally, as others have stated, the battery blows. Wait for new phones coming September and October.

That was a problem a couple of builds ago. I haven't had that happen in a couple of months.

Sometime next month (probably 2 weeks in) they will release the S2.

The Samsung GSII will NOT be released on Verizon.

As a Tbolt owner, I wouldn't recommend using your upgrade on this phone. Battery life is bleh, and HTC Sense is overrated. If you pick one up used like I did, root or rom it and make sure you have the V6 Supercharge. Super fast gets faster after the V6.

It is a great phone but is slowly nearing the end of its shelf life. I would personally get either the LG Revolution, or if you can wait a few weeks hold out for the Bionic.

The reboot issues have been fixed for awhile now and Sense is a like it or hate it thing. I like it personally.

Thanks for all the responses. I decided to wait to see how the Bionic turns out.

For the Thunderbolt, how big of a difference in battery life does rooting and using certain ROMs makes? I've read so many conflicting accounts from people. Some say they were able to extend their battery enough to last several days of moderate use and others say they have to charge in the middle of the day.
