New PC build, looking for suggestions/advise

Thread Starter
Here is what I am going with currently: http://i.imgur.com/bCLVu.jpg

What i'm going to be using the computer for:
Virtual PCs (which is why i want the extra RAM and the 2600k, i run 2-3 virtual PCs now on 8gigs and could use the extra ram)
Gaming
Some video rendering (nothing major, more of a hobby)

What i'm carrying over from my old computer:
2tb drive for storage / virtual PCs.

I'm looking for general advise to the items i picked out, and a good suggestion or two for a case.

thanks guys in advance

Looks amazing, however you could change the mobo to the Biostar TP67XE (8+2 power phase which is enough) which supports both SLI and CF and is only $125, other than that, it's a solid build.

Here are some of the 1155 Asus mobo's:

Hope that helps

Also welcome to OCN

Is $1300 the max budget for this build?

There are better TIM's than arctic silver 5 now as it is old. Try Arctic Cooling mx2 or mx4 from the same manufacturer. Others recommend Shin Etsu, there's a detailed post on these forums covering TIM and recommended options. AS5 is still a good TIM, but not as good as newer options and has a long cure time.

I'd look for some combos to save a little money. I think you can package that GPU and your PSU together to get a combo discount. Otherwise I think the build looks good unless you have a larger budget to work with. You might go with a bit nicer motherboard, but it really depends on what features you need and how much overclocking you want to do.

Upon quick glance, AS5 is obsolete and conductive. Good TIMM for sure but I prefer Noctua NT-H1, I think MX4 is a favorite in these parts too.

Get the NH-D14 for about $75 Shipped from Directron.com

Spend less on a PSU without sacrificing quality?

On the PSU note, it's slightly overkill for a single 570, a quality 500w is more than enough. If you plan to so SLI in future you would need atleast 750w.

dang thanks for the quick replies so far.

I'll look into swapping out for the MX2 or MX4. the build cap is about $1500 give or take.
in terms of MOBO i'm fine spending another $50 or so if it would add a lot more features or options.

Anyone have suggestions for a decent case? $100-150 range ballpark?

thanks!

A lot recommend the P8P67 Pro here, which is a ~$180 board. The Biostar TP67XE already recommended is a very nice price/performance board at the ~$125 price point and is hard to beat. I have no problem recommending it to someone who doesn't want to spend circa $200 on a mobo.

The Coolermaster CM690II Advanced is a ~$90-$100 case that is commonly used in that price range. The Corsair 400R and 500R will be released at ~$100 and ~$130 respectively in the coming month and they look to offer some really good features for the price if you can wait on them. The 400R and CM690II are very similar, with the 400R being newer and including a few more features; I recommend checking them out to start your search.

This is OCN, fast replies is the way we roll

If you add a little more $$ towards your mobo, you could get the asrock p67 Extreme4 (fantastic mobo) or the Asus P8P78 PRO. Those boards seem to be very popular amongst 1155 uers's, especially the Asus PRO.

The p8p67 Pro would be a good step up. Read other boards features and see what you might utilize. Including Z68 board's, Just take a look.

NZXT Phantom fit's in that $100-$150 perfectly and is a great great case.

I'll also second the post suggesting a PSU wattage change. 500W is plenty for one card or if you plan to SLI in the future, go >= 750W. One or the other. Use this thread to find some recommended power supplies in the wattage range you choose:
