Maximus Gene Z vs ???

Thread Starter
Are there any boards in that kind of $170 range that beat the Gene-z? I need SLI/Crossfire, P67 or Z68, a great UEFI (I'm a noob, never worked in a REAL man's bios), and of course good overclocking capabilities.

ATX or mATX boards please. I'm going to shove my sig rig (albeit with 8GB of RAM and a new CPU cooler) into either a Lian Li PC-A05N (and cut a blowhole) or an NZXT Vulcan

I'm considering boards like the Gigabyte UD3 or UD4, MSI GD55 or 65, and maybe the Asus P8P67 Pro, but the gene-z seems to really be better than all of them. The only thing that is "meh" about the gene-z is that Asus doesn't appear to have any plans to make it ivy bridge compatible like gigabyte or asrock.

Not really and I have had the Asrock Extreme4 Z68, the Asus Pro Z68 and the MIV Z68, by far the Gene was the best unless you need additional SATA ports or PCI slots.

Apparently you find it good enough to run a micro atx board in a full tower case with thousand dollar sli setup lol...

It's a GREAT board, it carries on the ROG line to a new budget oriented small form factor audience, and dollar for dollar not many can match it ... let alone BEAT IT.

You won't regret the MaxIVGeneZ68 if you do get one. Like utnorris said, the ONLY thing is IF you need more PCI-e slots or USB connections than the board has, but it has more than MOST people will actually USE IMO. It's just the little Brother to the Asus Maximus IV EXTREME Z68 ... but that board is $200 MORE.

I'm considering a buy of this board, but I'll have soon the Raven 02 Evolution. Wouldn't it look ... hmm - funny? Does anyone of you have this board in Full ATX case?

Its the perfect board for single/SLI setups. There is nothing better. I have mine in a 650D and looks clean and pretty.

I have the Maximus IV Gene-z and it is a fantastic motherboard. I also have the Silverstone FT02. It goes really well in the case, but does look a little odd. I had a Corsair 650D, but didnt care much for it. To make a long sotry short it will look a little odd, but who cares.

The one thing that really bugs me about the board though, is the proximity of the first pcie slot to the cpu socket. My Silver Arrow covers part of the slot making it useless. I am changing my board the Extreme-z for this reason.
