Noob questions about sound cards

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I would like to learn more about sound cards, I used to be a Dj a few years ago but gave it up because it was too time consuming.
I still love listening to music and gaming in my free time.

I have Logitech Z 5500 Digital 5.1-CH PC multimedia home theater speaker system (they are amazing).

I want to know if its worth $30-120 to buy a used sound card here on the forums.

Are the differences any noticeable? is it like having no video card and then upping to a 9800gt? how much should i be spending around to get an amazing difference in sound quality? Thanks for any input!

no matter what system you have , a sound card will help , even with modest systems it will give you extra quality , if not with high quality audio it will give you better 3d audio effects

some has headphone AMP a thing that may make you buy a card for it only

so yes it`s worth it , even a 30$ card

It will make a difference, although your speakers and headphone setup will also determine how much of a difference it makes. The higher quality the equipment, the bigger the difference. I'd say that a Xonar DX ($50 refurbed), Auzentech Forte ($90 refurbed), or Xonar ST/STX ($120+) will be good choices for you.
