Would I see an increase in encode times by getting a faster Hard Drive?

Would I see an increase in encode speed by getting a faster Hard Drive if while encoding videos my CPU usage goes to 100% on all 8 threads of my 2600K?

What I do is take nearly uncompressed game-play recordings from Hard Drive "A" and turn them into high quality MP4's at 5% of the original size that are saved on Hard Drive "B".
I run my OS on a completely different Hard Drive, so that doesn't interfere with anything.

If my CPU usage is 100%, how would a faster HDD increase speeds? It doesn't appear to be a bottleneck.

I guess I should add that my Seq. Read is around 40MB/s in case anyone is curious or for whatever reason may want to know this info.

Proper conclusion.

When I encode FRAPS footage to x264, I have about 20% CPU usage. RAID would benefit me.

But as soon as I encode from high quality H.264 to lower bitrate H.264, I also hit 100% CPU usage.

In your case, your HDD seems to be keeping up. I would expect the gains to be fairly minimal if anything.

Alright. Nice to know I wasn't the only one with that conclusion.

I saw one of your posts earlier that was very informative about hard drive performance degrading based on how much of it is used regardless of fragmentation, and after around 60% usage the performance plummets. You seem to have a good understanding on the subject of hard drives and their performance.
