560Ti untill GTX 6xx ?

Hey guys,

Found some interesting info about the upcomming 28nm GPUs from AMD and Nvidia. The approx 380 USD AMD GPU will outpreform the current 6970 by 100% and be slightly better than SLI 6970. Imo this looks like 28nm is a big deal cant even wait to see how insane the Nvidia GPUs will preform.

Here is my problem I was gonna get the GTX 580, but what I can tell is that the 28nm will smoke the current 40nm.

Even bigger problem is that the Nvidia 28nm will release Q1-Q2 2012 and AMD will be October to December which in case of Nvidia will be well after BF3 release.

So here is what I was thinking get a cheaper GTX 560Ti to last BF3 for a few months and then try and sell it and get a brand new 28nm ? I like making smart choices when it comes to building a PC, for one I would never have bought a GTX 400 series cuz it was seriously flawed and expensive + I like my PC to last atleast 3 years. My current E8500 and GTX 280 are still holding strong. Also if AMD 28nm will gain 100% over the 6970 im hoping Nvidia will do the same, making buying a GTX 580 now + cheaper SLI in the future bit pointless.

So would you think getting GTX 560Ti untill GTX 6xx comes out a smart choice ?

Note cheapest GTX 560Ti I can get at the store I usually buy is 200 euro and thats the Twin Frozr II. Combined with 2500k, Z68, 8GB 1600, 850Watt

What do you guys think ? or what would you do in this situation.

It's a still very good card.
I was thinking of buying another one but will wait till the 6xx series as well.

It's really up to you, I would probably do it.

They change them way too often and most of the time it's ridiculous upgrading for a few extra frames or a feature or 2 that you don't even see.

Honestly you don't always need 60+ fps as long as the game feels smooth. Some might argue here but quite frankly I couldn't give a *********** you know what I mean.

Besides when you're playing an intense game do you just stop to stare or are you fully engaged into the game play?

Like you I like to make smart upgrades not just because it's in or it 'considered cool by others'

Good luck dude.

Outperforming the current card by 100%... yeah, such rumours were floating at every new GPU generation Never really happened, or just with some synthetic benchmarks.

Imho, if you always wait for something, you could wait forever, since new better things are constantly coming out.

Just wait for BF3 beta, and buy something that runs it fine. No need to think about next gen yet.

Thats why I wasnt sure, dunno what 28nm will do but it should be big.

And ofc you can always wait for better stuff but not everything that comes out has been worth waiting for and some things are.

Pick up two 550ti's run them in sli and get incredible performance for like 300$.

well technically the GTX480 did outperform the GTX280 by nearly 100%.

but on point, OP buy a 580. You could probably OC it to 850Mhz for 24/7 use and that power will last you well into next year and will destroy all games on the market right now and probably battlefield 3.

I know 580 will run BF3 np, but I do have a 120 Hz screen + have 3D glasses. I have played games at a steady 120 Fps on 120Hz its amazing.

Im waiting to see Beta benchmarks first ofc, but seeing as 560Ti and 580 arnt that far apart in preformance but they are in price and 28nm is around the corner.

And to the SLI 550Ti's kinda defeats the point of trying to stay cheap.

I fail to see how the 4xx series was "seriously flawed". The GTX 460 is still the best budget card you can get, the 470 overclocks like crazy (40-50% OC on the core clock with aftermarket/water cooling) and the 480...well the 480 is kinda bad...with power consumption and heat through the roof. Still performance wise it's just 15-20% behind the 580 which came out 6 months after (you'd think they could've done better).

But yea, right now you should wait for 28nm, Nvidia will have to drop prices to stay competitive until Kepler.
