Tell it to install to a different folder and those files now magically move to this new folder and prevent me from installing steam.

I'll try straight off the C: drive, or perhaps my surrogate D: HDD to see if i can at least get it to install, however anything in program files (x86) or regular just seems to repeat this fun bug.
You failed to install it to another c:\\"foldername". Try that. Then go to your "steam shortcut's" on your desktop, and redirect to that folder, manually type the shortcut... cause if you don't do this, those OLD shortcuts will magically go to the OLD folder... :O

I have the steamapps folder backed up elsewhere, however it is little to no use if steam itself will not install fully on my ssd anymore.
Not this...

I'll try this method later this evening after work, however I did some of this last night and it didn't work. Hopefully moving it to C:\\ rather then program files folder and forcing every folder within it to admin rights "should" fix it.

Not just c:, cause that's plain dumb, no offence.

c:\\NEWFOLDER\hefolder\\somewherehere\\perhapshere\\omg***bbq\\* ****\\ohthegamefolder\\maxthecharacters\\

ie...?

c:\\games\\steam\\<---- (Good example)

Thats sort of what I had meant, not within program files folder.

Also, doing some further digging some people actually had MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable entries broken cause the exact same issues. I'm going to try to uninstall/reinstall it to see if that was the issue as well before installing it to a different location.

Turned out that my gut was right about it being a registry issue... the MS Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable entries had broken somehow, preventing the windows installer from installing any more instances of the same thing. Of course, most installers start with a MSVC Redist install, so that's why they were all failing. Thankfully I didn't have to edit the registry manually.

None of the solutions appear to work, tried this plus half a dozen other things as well and now the only error i get is that steam.exe cannot be deleted as it already exists (no ****, you put it there installer). I've tried with giving added admin rights, by installing to a different folder, removing the regedit file (which then allowed me to completely nuke the folder that had anything left over in it leaving completely empty folders to install to), installing in a completely different directory and I continually now just get that steam cannot be edited or deleted as it already exists error.

Look for a force deletion program, most of them will run at startup and force delete the app before it has any chance to kick in.

Before what kicks in, i'm able to actually remove all the files from the steam folder and the registry file. Its when i attempt to install it afterwards (even after a reboot) that the installer complains that steam.exe exists and cannot be deleted/edited even if i use a fresh folder that does not have steam.exe in it prior.

Oh miss read your last post. The only thing I can think of is try using ccleaner to scan your registry and try to repair it. Worst case you may have to reinstall windows.

I get the feeling I'm going to have to nuke and pave as its not a registry thing as far as i can tell even with ccleaner. It seems solely that steam is screwing with itself when its trying to install
