Hearing isn't THAT fragile. AFAIK, anything above 85db for over an hour is dangerous. But I don't know how dangerous. Besides, I probably listen to music louder than that sometimes, but for 10 or 15 minutes straight at best. I always pause, decrease the volume or take the ear/headphones off for a few seconds.

I don't know, but that should be enough. Honestly, if ear/headphones were SO harmful they'd just ban them. Also, those high-end phones often have awesome noise-cancelling, which means you don't have to increase the volume too much to cancel the noise around you.

I see that part. I do agree they are better than the average considered "standard grade" quality but the high price tag is stupid IMO. They're just luring people into a trap and saying "the more expensive, the better it is" to their customers and then they just look at other overpriced headphones and go like, "It's realllllllyyyyyyyyyy expensive. It must be good". For example, you could get some headphones at the price of some Beats Pros that's better, even for less.

Edit: Oh yeah, I ninja edited you.

Welcome to the business world Every product follows that logic, hell even products from companies such as Ultrasone or Grado. You'll find the model number up is a big old jump in cost with minimal increase.

It happens everywhere, it is just more obvious with the beats because of the fashionable marketing scheme. I mean, who ever really though a GTX 590 was worth over £600!?

I understand that. Greed never fails to take over, which is why we look at reviews where the people actually know what they're doing, like Headroom.

Some companies make it too obvious these days. It's so obvious and yet people still buy them.

I don't think you can ever call a company greedy. Their whole point on this earth is to make money for shareholders. If they can generate revenue, then fair game.

But yeah, I do agree beats are silly over-priced. But, it's a fashion thing as well. I know a lot of people criticise that, but it happens on OCN as well. You see people aligning themselves to brand with no real reasoning simply because they want to be seen with a particular product.

Desire to be seen in a certain light exists everywhere! I mean, people create great looking case mods to show off etc... that is just a geeky version of wearing headphones to look good

the people who say its stupid to spend money on audio, either dont appreciate good sound in the first place or havent heard a well made setup.

these HD428s i got about a month ago have sucked me into the audiophile world....i like these because of how neutral they are for gaming and whatnot, but i want two more sets.
one bassy set for my dubstep, and one set that has perfect mids/highs for when i listen to classical.

I'm glad I'm pretty insensitive to the range of good to crappy sound quality--it's all the same to me, and hence I'm unlikely to spend a lot on sound. Yay me!

But the article was a fun read.

I wouldn't go that far.

It's a bit harsh. They're pretty good for their price - just depends what you're used to, I guess.
