They are NOT better...
Better price for performance, but I have heard horror stories with these cards VRAM baking which should have been fixed by now...

yeah, I am not bashing the 570 at all, but if you are comparing performance to a gtx 580, stick to the gtx 580...
Better overclocking results, more performance... simple as that...

2 gtx570's will smoke a single gtx580. As for their quality, I don't know, I don't personally have one, I'd check out some more gtx570 threads for good brands/brands to avoid. I've seen a lot of people with the gtx570 cards, so I don't think they are all bad.

heck even my 2 470's beat out a single 580.

Are we comparing a single GTX 580 to SLI GTX 570 here or what? Cause SLI GTX 570s roast a single GTX580. If I had to choose between 2 570s or 1 580, I would definitely go with 2 570s.

You all are right, I am confused LOL...

Two 460's are slightly better from what I know...

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Only thing I would worry about with 2 gtx570's would be the vram being lower vs a gtx580. That shouldn't affect you right now, as I haven't had any issues with my SLI 470's running everything out there, but I have a lower res, running higher res with only 1280mb vram may not be sufficient in a couple years. I think it's still fine now though.

The 570s VRMs were failing, not the VRAM.

I owned a 570 before stepping up to the 580 and I ran it at 850MHz @ 1.163v for months and it never so much as hiccuped at the load. Maybe they only like to fail around 1.1v?

But I will attest to the 570s smoking a 580. Anything with 480 CUDA x 2 will be a formidable pair. That is if you have the room to space the 570s apart.

If you've got the room and the extra money I say go SLI 570s and OC the pants off them.

A single 580 not overclocked, or even mildly overclocked, will be fine with reference cooling. I can't comment on how it will do with Skyrim since it's not out yet, but the 580 manhandles almost every game at 1920x1080 on a single monitor.

The 570 has more than enough vram for a single 1920x1080 display, which I believe is what he's using.
