If Skyrim's engine is anything like Oblivion's, (which I hope it's not, and I've heard has a new engine) you would be fine with a dual core CPU, and any newer GPU. I believe they are still making the game for consoles, so I wouldn't expect it to need any more than a single gtx560, let alone 2 570's, or a gtx580.

If heat is a concern, SLI can get hot, so in that case I would say just go for the gtx580. Actually if it were me, and I had the money, I would go with a single gtx580 now, which should play everything out there with a i5 2500k, and maybe add another down the road.

thats the way i see it right now so what you are saying as well is the 580 no overclock would be fine with no extra cooling?

Yes, that should be sufficient, now which gtx580 to get, I don't know. Maybe try to get one of the ones that have an aftermarket type cooler on them, like the gigabyte, or the asus one.

Change the fan profile of the GTX 580 so it ramps up the fan speed higher for higher temps. When my 580 is @ 80% and around 50c, I don't mind and to be honest, while gaming I don't hear it. Plus my new portable A/C unit is now the loudest thing in my office, but with the shooting and explosion, it's tuned out.

Yeah, that one looks pretty good, It looks like it has a pretty descent cooler on it, so you should be fine.

You can edit the fan profiles if necessary really easily in either the EVGA software, or MSI afterburner, I doubt you'll have to worry about it. It is nice to have Afterburner installed to monitor your temps, GPU usage in game.

The 570 has more than enough vram for a single 1920x1080 display, which I believe is what he's using.
barely enough
metro 2033 eats up 1.2xxGB of vram on highest everything @ 1080
yeah it's enough to play consoles ports but real PC games... not cutting it in the near future
