How many DoTA players asked what AoS is?

This is wrong. League of Legends is nothing like DotA and contains pretty much nothing from it. It's not even close to having the same heroes or items and anyone who has played both games will agree with me. LoL having the same map and being a MOBA game does not alone make it very similar to DotA. If anything, Heroes of Newerth comes much, much closer to DotA, but it is still lacking.

Not trying to argue which game is better, btw.
This. They are two different beasts! Sure they overall concept is the same, but trying to go from one game to the other is a nightmare. Trust me, I've done it multiple times

Flawed logic. AoS was nothing in terms of amount of population playing and popularity compared to what Dota has/had. Dota isn't that big today because of LoL and HoN taking much of the players in NA/Europe, but in Asia Dota is still huge, and I'm sure much of the HoN player base will go back to Dota when Dota 2 is released, can't say the same for LoL as most of the LoL'ers are new to the genre I believe, which is actually what makes it sad. The game they play is loosely based on a game that had at least 5 mil+ players globally and they've never even heard of it, comparing that to a game that was based off a player base of probably several thousand at it's height and is now dead is a little bit foolish, isn't it?

most bioshock players don't know what system shock is. it happens. i think it had more than several thousand though...it was pretty popular for a bit.

If you're talking about the origins of the genre you don't begin with DoTA.
