Sony A300 Opinion & Appraisal

I have been wanted to get a DSLR camera for a while now. This would be my first DSLR. I have just been saving/waiting on funds. I had been researching/planning on getting a Canon T1i or T2i because I liked the feel of the Canons when i went to stores to "try" some out. I have not held a A300 yet.

A friend of a friend offered me the following deal and I don't know much about Sony DSLRs. Hoping to get some first had user experience here. Would this be a good first setup?

Sony A300 10.2 DSLR
DT 18-70mm kit lens
Sony 75-300mm macro lens
Medium size soft case unknown brand
All original paperwork, software, cables
He is asking $400 for everything.

It has to be a good deal, if it is just fair market i'll probably pass.

Thanks from a DSLR noob.

the a300 is a pretty old camera and is fairly noisey (i have the a200, which is the same except for without liveview). body itself is about 300 with kit lens and the 75-300 is about 100. everything else is just bonus. it is a ok price for the camera.

personally i would look elsewhere cause you get a newer a33/t2i/d3000 used for that price.

I have an A55 which is allot newer so i can't comment on the a300 but I don't regret choosing a Sony SLR over Canon/Nikon. I find it very good to use and don't see myself using anything else for a long while.

These where my thoughts. I offer him $300-$325 for the package but for his asking price I would rather hold for a little better camera.
