Co-op in Battlefield 3 is designed to be the perfect blend between the strong narrative from single player and the open-ended action from multiplayer. Lead Co-op Designer David Spinnier and his team are fusing the replayability of multiplayer with a pick up and play mentality to create a totally new flavor of Battlefield.

The co-op missions in Battlefield 3 take place in the same world as the single player campaign, and follows a unique series of events that lead up to an explosive finish...

To survive through the co-op missions, you’ll need to stay close to your buddy. If he goes down, lend a helping hand with the new co-op “Man down!†mechanic, that lets you revive him in the heat of battle. While being down, you can still use your secondary weapon to defend yourself, while...

Missions are designed to be shorter than single player missions, so you can easily do multiple rounds in an evening...

Difficulty is high. Spinner and his colleagues are going for a tough challenge in all missions. Also, since competitive players will likely try each mission several times, all of the co-op missions contain randomized elements to keep every playthrough fresh. Clearing the co-op missions not only gives you scores and bragging rights – it also has benefits for your multiplayer career. There are a number of weapons that you can unlock in co-op and take with you to the regular multiplayer modes...

That sounds pretty cool, I kind of like the exclusive unlocks in MP based on co op, that's a good idea in my opinion. The randomization is also cool, I hate it when you do a co op with a friend, then another friend wants help and makes you do the same thing again haha.

Pretty cool, but co-ops are rarely any good imo. Only real good co-op I've played is portal 2. But I'm surely hoping that this will be a great feature.

I hope this doesn't affect the campaign too much as games like RA3/CNC4 sucked with AI as a co op partner. I hate co-op games in general though...

CNC4 just sucked. Period.

Anyway - co-op is a generally good idea but the AI normally gets quite confused from what I've seen personally.

Either that or doesn't scale enough/scales too much.

I still don't get why they can't keep the single player bf2 style... This is what I really want... I don't want to be online all the time to have to fly a jet around in circles for an hour if I want

Left 4 Dead & Left 4 Dead 2 were some of my favorite games of all time. Borderlands I heard great things about but still haven't gotten around to playing. the co-op in the CoD games was entertaining for a bit. the gears of war series had some fun co-op as well.

i think double dragon was probably the first co-op game i played, liked it ever since.

no, it's 2 different campaigns. it only uses the single player campaign maps. they're entirely different (single player & co-op campaigns).

Sounds great.

Hmm this sounds pretty cool. Reminds me of Perfect Dark for N64, with its Challenges. Sometimes it was best to play those solo though, as adding a player usually upped the difficulty quite a bit..

I hope they bring back traditional BF2 co-op though, essentially MP with bots, That's what I want.

Finally, I'm glad they will have co-op mode to play with our friends, nothing better then enjoying fun nights with the campaign with a buddy, especially if we both have high end systems and we want to brag about our fps while playing.
