Overclocking my I5 2300

Hi guys im new to this overclocking business but would like some advice can i overclock my I5 2300 2.8 ghz using my towers standard cooling fans ???? If so is there a guide i can follow so i dont blow my pc up. I play microsft fsx and would like some more processing power my graphis card is a Nvidia geforce 590 which has 2 gb of dedicated ram and i have 6 gb of dd3 so i think everything else is o.k but my processer could be better ????

you can't overclock unless its a K series i5/i7.

Also a stock i5 2300 is more than fine for that game. It ran perfectly on my old i7 920.

Welcome to OCN since this is your first post

You can only do "limited" overclocking via turbo multiplier which can be raised 4 bins above stock (i.e. if stock its at 32x you can raise it to 36x) and you need a P67 or Z68 board to be able to do that. If you could please fill out your system information in User CP that would be helpful for future questions.

You choose the wrong processor. Do with a i5 2500k or a i7 2600k. Those are the only 2 cards that can overclock.

You also need a P67/Z68 motherboard

It came as a built tower was only meant to go for a " Family Pc " and went a little wild this was the only one in the shops close to my home that had ticked all the boxes i wanted like Ram, graphics card, and a decent chip i am getting 41 fps on fsx with alot of addons which i carnt complane was just wondering if i could make it slightly better. Also how do i know what motherboard i have ???

run a program called CPU-Z, it will tell you

also ur computer is fine, the i5 2400 is far,far from slow.
