Anyways, I have all the files for doing this if you want me to email them to you. They're spread around the internet like easter eggs and on ****ty hosting so they're hard to get.

The work flow goes like this: flash stock froyo>root it>install bootstrap>flash the pre-rooted leaked gingerbread in 2 parts

1. SBF using THIS and flash to stock froyo. With this CD around it is impossible to brick your droid x.

2. Root it using the z4root app.

3. Once rooted install the droid 2 bootstrap app.

4. Reboot into bootstrap and wipe data/factory reset/wipe cache/dalvik cache

5. Then go to "install zip from sdcard" and install the leaked gingerbread zip in 2 parts. First flash part 1. Don't do anything after that except for flash part 2.

6. Reboot and now you're on the pre-rooted leaked version of gingerbread. From there you can flash any GB rom you want or just run the stock version. The OTA version is not rooted, yet.

7. If you want to theme and all of that you can install the deodexed version over the top of it.
Ok...I got the OTA 2.3.340. I am trying something.. If it doesn't work then I will try and SBF back to the other.

I will let you know. Thanks.

Where are these leaked gingerbread zip files?
Spread out on forums. I can send you them if you want. The leaked version is the same as the ota version but is pre-rooted for you.
You can either flash the Maderstock 3.40 filesystem via Clockwork Mod and then OTA to 2.3 and re-root OR use the pre-rooted filesystem and flash it the same way as Maderstock to obtain GB.

Or you can SBF back to stock and do the OTA.

Either way you go it'll do you just fine, but if I were you, I'd flash Maderstock then update via OTA or SBF to stock THEN re-root and flash the ROM you want to avoid issues and problems.

EDIT - Avoid the leaked versions of GB. Since the final release is already it would be pointless to run the leaked version.

If you decide to use Maderstock -

-Download Maderstock
-Put on SD Card
-Boot into Clockwork
-Install File from SD
-Select Maderstock
-Yes
*Wait for the installation to finish
-Reboot Phone
*****Do nothing else but the steps above!!!*****
-Once phone is booted up, download and install the OTA.
-Download z4Root or use the Terminal Emulator method to obtain SU.

**Installing a GB ROM or Pre-Rooted Stock GB**
-Download GB ROM / Stock GB Filesystem
-Put on SD Card
**Backing up your current filesystem is completely up to you, but it is highly recommended.**
-Clear Data
-Clear Cache
-Install .zip from SD
-Yes
**Wait for Installation to finish**
-Clear Data
-Clear Cache
-Reboot Phone.

**Reason being for Clearing Data/Cache twice in one process is to avoid issue's and FC's, this will make sure you are starting with a completely fresh install and fresh filesystem.**

For those of you who want to tell me I'm wrong, or he shouldn't do this, it is COMPLETELY optional, and I've find that it does work more and makes for a problem free experience (in most cases.)

How do I know? Why should you trust what I say?

I used to develop for the DX and D2, if any of you rooted users are familiar with the ROM GummyJar or Liberty I was a Beta/Main Tester for both devices and also helped with the development.

If you guys have any other questions or concerns feel free to PM me on here or get a hold of me at.. Dustin. @ DF.net

Holding power and home I get the little droid and the triangle. When I push the search button nothing happens like it usually does... ***. LOL

Edit:

Ok, well I used the SBF linux cd thing and went back to 2.3.340. Now I am installing gingerbread...again. Going to try my Rubix rom again. Hopefully I don't mess up. Again.

D

Edit Edit: Need to NOT be in Gingerbread to install Rubix 2.0.1.

FAIL.

Yeah, you'll need to make sure that the ROM your installing is using the Gingerbread Filesystem.

I would look at Justice rom for gingerbread. You can install it right over 2.3.4. Look for rom toolbox in the marketplace.

Thanks but I went ahead and updated the newest Rubix. It is the smoothest, fastest rom I have used. And I am used to it. Just had to figure out how to get the updated version.

Thanks to ya'll I figured it out!
