I dont understand... what was your whole purpose of telling him to state a nickname for ammo?

Ok, the Military made a name for ammo whoopdy doo. Why couldnt they just call it "5.56x45 77grain". Ohh I forgot, they like to have nicknames for things to make it easier for soldiers to remember.

The older M855 was "5.56x45 62grain". Which is basicly caliber cartridge and difference in powder.

So when he stated a difference in powder, he was utimately correct.

Also please squash the accuracy debate. A lot of variants and factors come into play when dealing with accuracy.

#1. The shooter. If you dont know how to shoot and keep steady nothing will be accurate.

#2. Environment. Wind, rain, and distance have a big affect on bullets traveling.

#3. Rifling. Which are the grooves in the barrel and movement of the action/firing pin. If this wasn't designed for 100% accuracy then it wont be. Plain and simple.

#4. Ammo. If you use surplus military grade ammo. It is not going to be very accurate. Each bullet will have more or less powder inside. Causing difference's in accuracy. Hence why there is "Match Grade" ammo available which comes at a premium price. Each bullet will be identical to the other. Commonly used in shooting competitions.

Russian steel cased ammo is the most known ammo throughout the world for being inaccurate. The manufacturing process is made for it to be cheap and to produce massive amounts.

All those above take into play when measuring accuracy. Not just this gun here is inaccurate. In reality the AK was designed to hit man size targets at 300 yards. So it is decently accurate, not a nail driver like the american made AR platform though.

Bottom line accuracy can always be improved.

It's not too hard to get FA weapons. Just have to apply for a Class 3 license and pay the tax stamp on each gun you purchase. In the US.

Also a M16 or M4 FA varry from 20-60k a peice. Yea... not worth the cost imo. Especially when you can empy a whole 30 round magazine in 2.5 seconds. Quickest $20 you'd ever waste. Even a escort isn't that espensive.

Though criminals can get what they wan't. I just don't see them wasting such money on them. Plus there are no side sights on them.

Yeah he pointed out that I got Mk 262 wrong for Mk 626. Wonderful right? Guess I had Lilo And Stitch on my mind when I typed that out and it makes such a huge difference. Typo. Hah. I'm sure he's never made one.

For the record though Mk 262 uses a different 77 grain bullet, the Sierra Match King, which is an open tipped jacketed lead round, while M855 is a 62 grain lead core bullet with a steel penetrator tip. The penetrator classifies it as purposely armor piercing so is illegal for general civilian purchase, whereas Mk262 can be bought or easily loaded to spec. Just making sure it's not just the powder that's different, but the bullet as well.

I know the bullets are different. I reload my own ammo. Just they dont make such a difference in reliability terms to what you originially noted, as the powder does. So I left them out because they weren't related to the topic at hand.

The difference with the bullet is mainly speed at which it travels and damage done. But that also comes into play with the amount of grain you have in the casing as well .
