New cpu and mobo recemendations

Thread Starter
I figured this would be the best place to post something like this.

Im looking for an upgrade from my current mobo and cpu with a
budget of around $200 I just recently bought a psu http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139005
so I should be could for just about anything.

My current cpu is a athlon 64 x2 5400+ black edition and I'm not sure If my current mobo supports am3 (I heard something about if its am2+ it does?) If that's the case then I'll just upgrade my cpu and get something better later.

I do moderate gaming and would like to be able to play my games on high settings.

Help us out. What is your current motherboard? Some AM2/AM2+ motherboards will take AM3 via BIOS update.
Not that $200 won't get you a quad core Phenom II, AM3 (+) motherboard and 4GB of DDR3-1600.

Well, if it does support am3 then I'm not going to get a new motherboard yet, I will save for something better. It's a Biostar A740G M2+.

Actually I was thinking something like this
Phenom II x4 925 OEM - $90 shipped (no heatsink, use your existing one as it's compatible)
ASUS M5A97 - $105 shipped
Kingston HyperX 2x2GB DDR3-1600 kit - $32.58 shipped

Coupon codes:
NEWCUSTOMER10 - $10 off [Newegg]
MEMKNURAUG11 - $20 off [Newegg]
DEALMONGO - $15 off [Superbiiz]

Total cost: $182.58 shipped

In that case I think I will go with this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103808
its $10 off with promo and its black edition.

Then later down the road I will upgrade my Motherboard.
I would be pairing this with a HD 5770 and 4gb of ram. Would this be good for gaming?

EDIT

Quick question, on the site it says its 125w, on the biostar site it says it supports AMD Phenom II X4 x955 95w so will it work?

The 3 phase VRM will NOT take 125W CPU no matter what.
Aside from that however, it doesn't appear that the BIOS was updated at all for AM3 processors, according to the Biostar website. Trust the official Biostar website.

It may, but the highest Phenom II that the biostar site says that will work is a Phenom II 945.
