i7 990X and Asus Rampage III Extreme Good Combo?

I wanted to no I have a i7 990x CPU will the Asus Rampage III Extreme motherboard be good for it ? I will be doing overclocking , video encoding, and editing would this board be good ? I currently have a Asus P6X58D-E which is good but is the Asus Rampage III Extreme better for my i7 990x because I have heard that these boards are good with extreme cpu's like i7 980x and 990x

People say they are good because anyone put a 1100$ cpu on a 150$ board XD. Much mroe a 400$ one.

Anyway, yeah, the ROG board have more stuff than normal mobo. More tech and space for quad sli.

Of course it's good. If you want no holds barred mobo tech, get the Black Edition.

How better is the Black Edition then the rampage III extreme
post #5 of 6
Better depends on what you'll be doing. Gaming, some slight overclocking, video editing, etc. will be good on any either board. I'd say you'd be wasting money by purchasing the R3E. With an air/water cooled cpu the difference would probably be very small. I'd take the R3E over the P6X58 in a second if it were to be used for sub-zero benching.

If it were me i would get the rampageIII black to get the most out of a board, however if you dont want all the extras go with the extreme. NewEgg has good details on both boards, I'd suggest checking there to compare them.
