No need to go to 2.66 GHz. For future reference when you have high temps, its best to go upwards not downwards. You keep the CPU within the spec temp more. So next time, start with 2.66, 3.0 GHz, 3.2 GHz, etc.

This is not helpful at all.

Thanks bigkahuna360

My whole attempt here was to get the OP's temps down, but another individual thought he knew better.
+1 to you!

You seem to lack some knowledge about how bloomfield works. TjMAX is not even across all cores!!! Keeping the CPU at over 80 Celsius is not recommended!

The amount of misinformation in this thread is shocking eek.gifeek.gif.

I remember reading a long article saying that i7 9XX series is fine for up to 100C if the processor was stock.

Even the tests the author ran showed that the throttling only happen above 100C.

However, he said that for heavily overclocked i7 9xx (+4GHz), temps should stay 70C or below.

What he said was reasonable considering that the HSF that comes with the i7 9xx is crap, my old i7 920 was hitting 80C under load @ stock speed/voltages. Intel will put a better cooler if that temp @ stock was dangerous.

i see the screw holes on the back of the radiator for an extra fan but alas, no extra fan there, i just have the one behind the radiator pushing out, the one for the PCI, the tiny one above the ram, and the one inbetween the HD's

what one would fit there?

It should be able to have the extra fan in there. Otherwise consider putting the radiator on the outside (Dont know how or if that works or not).

You're hitting 88C with a i7 920 at 3.8Ghz on water? The voltage must be way too high. I run my sig rig at 3.8Ghz in the summer at 72C on air cooling in my room that is 74F ambient.
