Recommend me a sound card and headphones for my needs

Thread Starter
Budget max 200 for sound card, max 200 for headphones but would preferably like 100-150 range on the headphones

I will mainly be gaming (Skyrim, SWTOR, GW2, D3, with a little BF3 and TF2 on the side) and watching Bluray movies.

I want the best immersion possible, since I'm not really a competitive FPS player I don't think that positional audio should really matter much to me.

I think I would like closed headphones more, however; if open types provide the better listening experience for what I will be doing then by all means suggest the best.

Thanks for any input!

60% gaming, 20% movies, 20% music.

Music taste is a little bit of everything. But listen to alternative rock, classic rock, and big beat/techno the most. Though Im more concerned with my game and movie audio.

Audio Technica ATH-A700 for a good closed back with great soundstage. Creative X-Fi Titanium HD for soundcard (or Asus Xonar STX)...I like the HD better though, the STX sounds flat to my ears.

The A700 and titanium hd is what i was leaning towards i was just under the impression that sound card was just good for competitive fps gaming and not so much mmos and movies

I think it's good all around, although it's main purpose was for music and frankly that's what I mainly use it for. I used to play competitive FPS (CoD and BF) and I would say the HD didn't really do anything when compared to my previous Titanium Fatal1ty Pro, however it is loads better from onboard audio. With that in mind, this card does perform very well in movies and I'm going to assume MMOS as well (I don't play). I would say it's the best you can get when it comes to soundcards. The A700 are good headphones for FPS, yes, but that doesn't mean it's only for FPS. They have good bass for movies and the soundstage is great for both positional audio and music alike. However, if you must have bass and lots of it I would recommend the V-Moda Crossfade LP headphones..they can be had for ~$120 and for that price they are totally worth it (not worth the $200-250 MSRP though).

You should also check out the JVC HARX700. Many reviews have compared it to the A700 and it sounds almost as good, and it's only about $35-40 at most online stores (i.e. amazon.com)
