My First Rig - Page 2

Thread Starter
My primary goal is hardcore gaming but I'm building it to do a little bit of everything when it comes to entertainment.

By the way, I continued this thread over at the Intel-General board so I've continued to make improved modifications to my build there based on the feedback I've gotten so far.

Looks good, for the amount your spending i would have liked to see a SATA3 SSD in there too. Also that's a GIANT power supply you selected. my rig is comparable to yours and i have a 750W.

Since someone said that I should be posting this over in the Intel-General forum, I went ahead and did so and someone actually already recommended a SATA 3 SSD as well as some other changes to my build (such as dual RAM rather than 4 sticks of 2GB for faster threading and a higher quality Corsair 850W PSU rather than the originally planned Cooler Master 1200W PSU I was planning to get) so I went ahead and added a SATA 3 128GB SSD as well as the previously mentioned recommended improvements to my build. I also replaced the original Bluetooth Dongle I was planning to get with a higher quality one which got better reviews.

Huh I didnt know you posted this somewhere else also.

Anyways the changes look nice, and i do agree with the ram. always shove the largest stick you can find, instead of a bunch of smaller ones. and the 850w PS is much more down to earth. you could have probably powered 2 of your computers with a 1200.

I'd like to throw in a question if I may. What steps should I take to make sure assembly goes along smoothly? I'm guessing when everything's in place I run Windows 7 on boot. Are their any additional software setups I should know about once I'm finished installing the OS? Drivers I should know about?

I'm in the process of installing my hardware into the case. This being my first time, alot of this is very new to me. I've been using YouTube videos and information I've been able to find through Google to help me so far. However, I'm running into a few things I'm confused about. So far I've installed the RAM and Noctua NH-D14 into the motherboard, mounted the motherboard to the case, plugged in both 570s and the SLI bridge that came with my motherboard.

That brings me to my first problem. Installing the HDD and SSD. I know they're going to be installed within the case's front bays just behind the fan. However, I cannot find any help with installing both. Should I install the SSD on the top bay and the HDD on the bay just below that? Is their a step by step guide or video on just how to set everything up? I'm not very familiar with the connectors and plugs either so I'm not sure where everything's going to be plugged in once all components are in place.

Sorry if this post is all over the place. This is my first time and my heads kind of all over the place trying to get everything placed where it should be. ANy help is greatly appreciated.

i have my SSD on top, but i dont think it really matters as long as you have a fan infront of them. just plug the power connectors to the drive, and the sata connectors from the Mobo to the drives and go. you might want to just plug in the SSD and install windows first. then plug the HDD in.
