Its true, but there ARE perks. Like a guarenteed copy, sometimes reduced pricing, extra in game stuff or novelties.

I recently pre-ordered Battlefield 3 Limited Edition and Modern Warfare 3 from Newegg, and Red Orchestra 2 from Green Man Gaming.

BF3 was $12 cheaper than retail and comes with the expansion pack which does not come with the retail and is not free.
MW3 was $10 cheaper than retail.
RO2 was $12.83 cheaper than retail.

Newegg has not charged me yet. RO2 is already on my Steam game list.

I never pre-order. I was just wondering why people pre-order. I rather not risk spending money on a possible bad game.

There seem to be perks but there are also downsides.

Only if you don't know for sure that you'll like the game. I never preordered console games, because back when the 360 was my platform of choice, there weren't preorder bonuses like there are nowadays (or at least they weren't common enough for me to remember). Take DE: HR for example, now. I saved 5 bucks by preordering it on Steam.

BF3, I'm going to preorder. Even if it's bugged out at release it will be patched up. It's a flagship title. Unless it's a series I like, I agree with you. Even with those you have to follow development. New titles don't get preorders from me regardless of game studio.

True. Thore are the only games I've ever pre-ordered because I've played the past in the series and I know thore will be good games. I don't usually do it because so many games end up sucking.

Can you imagine those poor suckers that pre-ordered Duke Nukem Forever?

This is true. I just started noticing these bonus posters at GameStop last year...this is all fairly recent.

BF3 pre order comes with free expansion from day one, that normal people would have to wait for and pay extra, plus they are getting pre order games cheaper usually

The biggest reason is to support game developers and show their investors that their game will sell so they fell easy about their investment.

It used to cost about 5 dollars extra to preorder games when I was younger.
