My First Rig: (Questions)

Thread Starter
Hello. I'm building my first rig and would like to know if their's anything I'm missing for the PC's assembly (such as key components or whether or not I will need additional cables etc.) as well as whether or not everything listed is compatible. If everything's good to go, I also have a few questions I'd like to ask regarding setup once everything arrives. I've already spent some time researching on what is and isn't compatible as well as reading product reviews on what I should and shouldn't buy but would like a second opinion. Before I list my specifications, I want to say that I'm on no particular budget but am not planning to incorporate triple SLI nor triple screen gaming such as an Eyefinity setup into my build at this time. I'm not looking to include a water cooling system either until I've gotten some experience with assembly on an older PC first. When I'm comfortable with it and feel I can safely assemble and install a water cooling system later on down the road, I'll begin focusing on overclocking. Other than that I'm not planning to make any changes to my current build unless I'm either missing something or something's not compatible. With that said, here are my specifications:

Change the RAM to a dual channel kit (2 x 4GB) at 1333MHz, or if you are going to overclock, get a dual channel at 1600MHz. Also get a corsair tx 850 instead of low quality cooler Master's. Everything else is good. Dont forget a sli bridge! Btw, the title's reg is spelled rig

I Google'd dual channel after reading your reply and didn't know it was a faster read. I realized I misspelled rig just after posting. I tried to fix the title but unfortunately their's no way to do that

I switched my Bluetooth Dongle due to the poor product reviews the Asus got and very positive reviews the Cirago got. I've also switched my copy of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit to Newegg's OEM. Thanks alot guys.

Can someone please tell me whether or not a Blu Ray Disc Writer also reads and plays Blu Ray discs? I've been searching all over the internet for an answer and can't find one. I'd like to be able to play Blu Ray discs on my PC as well as watch them in 3D with the Nvidia 3D Vision Kit but I can't seem to find out whether or not a writer also reads Blu Ray.

I've purchased an ASUS Blu Ray Disc Writer (ODD BW-12B1LT) and would like to know if it's capable of not only writing Blu Ray but also reading Blu Ray discs. Also, will I need to purchase a CyberLink PowerDVD disc in order to view Blu Ray in 3D or will my Nvidia 3D Vision Kit come with the software necessary to view Blu Ray in 3D?

Cooler master PSU's are not low quality, but 1200w is quite alot. I'd recommend a 750/850 by CM or Corsair.

I've had bad experience with them... especially the first time i bought one, the box said 500 watts but the label on the PSU said 435 watts.

How is he "derailing" his own topic? Anyway, OP, it can also read (I'm not sure that any writers are made that can't read, but don't quote me). Review for it here. Also, make sure when you get it it is exactly what you bought; a few reviewers on amazon said they got a lower quality, non-asus drive; just be wary when it arrives. As for the 3D, that review I linked states it has both the capability and the software for 3D output.
