PSU makes "clicking noise" During Furmark

Thread Starter
Ok so I have the Antec High Current Gamer Series 520 PSU.

Athlon II x2 4.0GHz 1.55v
GPU XFX AMD HD 6870 1.3v 1000, 1050

When I run furmark with the gpu overclock the psu makes a constant click type noise.

When I run furmark with stock gpu settings this does not happen...

Do I not have enough power? I am pretty sure 520w is enough power.

I have just tried it with 1.3v stock speeds and this does not happen, but if I oc to 915mhz on 1.3v it starts the noise again.

This is kind of shocking and I hope to have this resolved.

Let's hope that doesn't turn out literally.

My old PSU had the same issue out of the box. I just returned it and got a new one. Apparently the fan had an issue.

Do you think it is the fan? The PSU has had no problems until I ran furmark.

This is what is making me think it is a power issue.

Only happens when on 1.3v

I doubt 1.55v on my athlon and 1.3v on my 6870 and 1.65v on Ram, and 1.25v on NB would pull more than 520w.. impossible.

i had a 300w antec on an old P4 northwood system & a Ti 4600. it made a clicking noise and a week later it blew up killing my motherboard & sound card & making my vid card unreliable.

not sure if it's related. just sayin, if it keeps clickin and its not the fan (easy way to find out is to put a toothpick or straw or something next to a fan blade before you start it to prevent the fan from spinning up & then listen for the click) then you might want to consider getting a new psu.

I don't think it's the fan. It almost sounds like something is arcing when the PSU is having to put out more power.

Turn off pc to avoid damage and RMA?

And if I RMA, should I do newegg, as it has been less than 30 days, or should I try antec and see if they are any better. (in terms of upgrade)

Yeah, I would turn off the PC to avoid damage, and I also would RMA the PSU. Also, I would go through Newegg, they will most likely be much faster.

Meaning you don't think I could get a 600w outta antec

Ok, I can confirm after sticking a toothpick in the fan that the fan is indeed not the issue.
