ever used noclip in devmode? go under the map, and you will find water under the map!

idk if its the engine that does that, or what but i thought crytek would have fixed this in C2! btw i want devmode back in C2 mad.gif

Water is under the map in many engines (dunia, essence, etc...) but if it's occluded it doesn't take any resources or processing power. The point of this article is that the water that is under the map is needlessly taxing the PC.

Okay I am definitely not buying Crysis 2. The game was just sloppily done. Almost no QA whatsoever.

Interesting article.. And why the heck would you tessellate water you can't see or useless concrete slabs? :v

The game still doesn't look as good as Crysis 1 imo though (especially with mods), the pretty lighting doesn't just make it all better. tongue.gif

From what I've gathered so far, Tesselation has just been a massive waste of resources for the small visual edge it provides. DX10 is all you really need to make a game look mind-blowingly awesome, people are still finding ways to maximize DX9's visuals and they are STILL amazing if you look at Witcher 2 and the initial-release Crysis 2.
DX11 came in too fast IMO, lets see some decent work out of DX10 first. Crysis/Warhead did an awesome job but for some reason that was the last we heard of DX10? Whatever happened? Why are we seeing so many titles jumping from DX9 to DX11?
lol, this is the best CYA i have ever seen.
crytek was scolded for not having DX11, so they released a patch with tesselated water everywhere, haha....now no one can say there isnt tesselation in crysis 2.

So if we ask for a game that will push our extreme rigs to the limit.. we get ..the same map/game with rendered images we cannot even see..all in the sake of 'CPU/GPU utilization'?

What a crock! Make a game that uses all the resources on rendering whats ON the screen... not behind it/under it. This is like adding some malware to the game just to boost CPU % while playing in my opinion.

IMO, Nvidia were not that bothered about tess optimisations, especially since they have an interest in increasing the tess load as their cards are superior at tess.

Maybe if it were optimised, amd and nvidia cards would be closer in terms of tess performance and it would have been a waste of money for nvidia . . .

You don't know what tesselation does then.... it basially creates rough surfaces more cheaply. It is not a waste of resource if used properly. It is the opposite.

DX11 is a superset of DX10 so your point of "came in too fast" is moot.

honestly Crytek is the victim in this.

They were pushed around by everyone to rush this game and its' patch out.

EA probably wanted them to release the console version and PC version at the same time when the Dx11 update wasn't ready and pushed crytek to do so.

Nvidia and Many Many PC fans wanted Crytek to release the Dx11 patch as quick as possible and pushed them to so so.

How PC gamers can hate a company that delivered what it promised (a new game, new technology, new setting, new engine) is beyond me but then again the mentality of most PC gamers is to complain about everything and they wonder why they don't get nice things.

they did kinda troll us with that concrete slab though. Seriously wth.
