Athlons are split into several groups. With Athlon (like lots of CPUs), the memory controller is on the CPU itself and not a chip on the motherboard. As such, for your motherboard (which is DDR1 RAM), you need an Athlon CPU that has a DDR1 memory controller. The Athlon 7850 is not one of those IIRC, it is a DDR2 CPU.
Refer to Compuman's list of supported CPUs, if you really want to try and keep the board/RAM and upgrade the CPU alone.Edited by Skripka - 8/17/11 at 6:26am
