2500K Overclocking advice please

Howdy folks

I am currently at 4.2ghz, 1.20v, and in bios ive changed nothing except from the core volt and multiplier.

IS there any specific settings I must change before overclocking, or any that I should change in the event that my overclock is unstable, aside from upping the vcore?

Also whats genuine max vcore for 24/7? 1.4?

Run prime blend for 12-24 hours, if you're stable try dropping the vcore until it's just enough. The max recommended vcore is 1.5 I believe, so stay under that. As far as needing to change anything else, your stability or lack thereof will let you know, if you're stable then you should be fine unless you get lockups and bsod's at idle. In which case (only if you are using offset voltage) you should disable c states, c3 and c6.

*edit*
are you asking about the intel sandy bridge cpu's? I see you have AMD...

I seem to have hit a wall with my overclock, I can do 4.7ghz with 1.34v, but after that ive tried right up to likes of 1.37/8v for 4.8ghz and it just wont have it!

Any settings I could look at increasing that might help besides vcore?

thats worked munaim! honestly cracking advice.

But I think i left PLL and that VCIIO thing at auto, so its just multiplier and vcore ive changed, should i change those two settings or just leave them?

I read in overclocking guide on net that PLL overvoltage should be lowered...I should have just asked you!

LOL nice one, PLL overvoltage is for those high multi's, but for specific ones, you might need it for multi 50 but not for 51 and so on.

Lowering CPU PLL voltage has shown promising results, I would recommend lowering it to 1.7v for now and tweaking it a little later. VCCIO is only suppose to be increased when your overclocking the RAM to high speeds or when you have populated more than 2 dimm slots, well that's the general consensus. I would reocmmend uupping the VCCIO to 1.125v, apparently it's helped some to lower the vcore.

Glat to hear that it's going well

EDIT:

Between bios changes I would recommend runnign custom blend 1344 and 1792 for a faster stability test for now, run each of those in a 1min cycle with 90% of your available RAM for 15 mins each then you can go ahead and finally do a 12hour blend.

Forget IBT, your not using the avx linkpack. Run the custom 1344 and 1792 instead.
