[TCMagazine] Razer unveils "World's First 'True' 7.1 Headphones" - Tiamat 7.1 - Page 33

It doesn't work that well with two full size speakers because they are too far away from your ear and most implementations of 3D sound filtering do not take in to consideration speaker placement and distance to your head (though newer sound systems are!). But stereo headphones can give a 100% realistic 3D sound experience by simply sending pre-filtered sound waves directly in to your ear canal.

So when I say 7.1 surround headphones are a marketing gimmick, I am stating a fact. Stereo headphones are the absolute best quality of 3D sound you can get. 2 speakers, 2 ear canals.
You're preaching to the choir there. Chinesekiwi was just making a point that "2 ears = 2 drivers" was a gross simplification of exactly why surround phones are a gimmick.

idk. Ive tried lots of head phones but I love my g930s. The sound really good in stereo mode and I can tell a big difference in fps when put in to 7.1 mod. Got them because they were the best wireless head set out there which was a big deal for my use of them. But to each his own.

I read his post too fast and missed a sentence in there. My bad!

The MF and Sennheiser setup, you'd be looking at about £225/£125 for the HD600 and the V-Can. In terms of value, it's hard to say. I use Sennhesier HD800's with a Musical Fidelity M1 and a V-Link (£1,500) at home and run a Hi-Fi store, so I'm quite into sound reproduction. I think you would do better with a cheap headphone amp/DAC like the Fiio E7 with maybe Sennhesier HD595's. You could probably get those two together for under the £200 mark. Probably about £160 together.
Thanks for the tip, as this really helps me ino decidin what good and i also learn something.

... You are probably right, that in most cases the headphones gave me what i wanted it due to my massive modification. I will look for this set-up and hopefully when i get something like that i will notice that i made a step forward. Hope its not too late for my ears Its true that those Fatal1ty arent perfect, but they will do for the time being. They are worst during gunshots, that sounds really like cracklin metal or smth. Thanks,

S.

Ok, well i got quite a serious problem now. I was gaming and i was stretching my hands a bit before the match loads, and suddenly the sound got muted. I looked down, and my Fatal1Ty were cut....

I do not know how, i do not have a clue. Now i have the two jacks, and headphones....I am, of course, looking for something that would be good for me right now.

Sennheiser sounds really good, but you guys might think otherwise. I would like to choose one, gaming headphones, with good stereo reproduction, and also being able to play some music eventually.

I hope you help me,

Shadowness

The 598 would be the best of those. It's just the new version (basically) of the 595, which was the BBC's monitor over-ear headphone. Can't go wrong .

Although, if you know you do like the fatal1ty, no reason you can't buy another and you know they're great value.

Which one to buy ?
Have you made a decision on what to get yet? If not, here is some of what I have gathered while in pursuit of a truly 'sq' headset. Keyword "headset". I studied up on boom mics and cans for a long time before deciding to purchase the Sennheiser PC 360 G4ME headset.

I was looking for the best sounding headset, not headphones, for mainly online gaming (with positioning in mind), but also for single player gaming and music/movie use as well. You can spend <$200 on Logitech, Razer, Tritton, Creative, Astro, etc., as well as Sennheiser and other reputable names and get a fairly decent quality headset that will easily get the job done. Many say that it is a waste to spend more than that on a set of cans and some will go so far as to say its crazy. Anyone who has had the opportunity to experience the sound quality of higher priced audio equipment knows that the price is justifiable, and considering the cans in your price range, as well as the price range I was looking at are by no means excessive in cost, it should be easily stomached.

The reason I went with the PC 360's was primarily because I wanted the best headset. My other option was the Beyerdynamic MMX 300, which I almost opted for and which cost around $100 more. I am not saying the PC 360 is superior to the MMX 300 or vice versa, but from the information I gathered the PC 360 are more suited to me because they are 'open' backs whereas the MMX 300's are 'closed'. I was looking for a wider soundstage, which is more predominant in an 'open' design. The downside to an 'open' back can is that they offer a limited amount of noise isolation; or in the PC 360's case, virtually no isolation, which does not bother me at all, but is an issue for many. The PC 360's are Sennheiser's so you know the Mic quality will be amazing, which it is, and the build quality is very good. The two features I really like are the fact that they have the volume control located on the right ear and when you put the mic in the upright position it automatically mutes. I would not worry about comfort on either the MMX 300 or the PC 360's as I have wore these for the entirety of a day with glasses and had no complaints to speak of. and while i have not wore the MMX 300's, everyone who talks of them says they are very comfortable and many say they are more comfortable than the Senn's.

As for the MMX 300's, there are two different versions of them floating around and one is supposedly quite a bit more bass-heavy than the other. If you're going for precise sound positioning for online gaming, then you will surely want the version that has less focus on the low frequencies. On the other hand if you're going for immersion, the other version are the way to go. A friend just ordered a set of the Manufaktur's direct from Beyerdynamic and I'm very excited for them to arrive so I can do some side-by-side comparing of the two. I suspect the Beyer's will offer a somewhat warmer sound, but at the sacrifice of a smaller soundstage.

Now, if you are not dead set on a headset, and are willing to go with a headphone and use a clip-on mic as needed, then i recommend you look into Audio Technica ATH-M50's or consider something similar such as the 598's you mentioned. If you're willing to spend more, you will easily be able to get something that will stomp the quality of both the pc 360's and the MMX 300's. I'd look into joining the community over at head-fi.org if you are considering headphones as they are extremely knowledgeable and always willing to lend there opinions.

yawn* another gimmicky headset...

"true 7.1, unnecessary flashing lights. large ear pieces so it feels like your wearing oven-mits on your ears. and a forced usb connection, because we know you spent money on getting high quality soundcard, we just dont care!"

Look..give me something that give sound that is smooth as a silk, a Mic that is crystal clear, and a cord that is braided and doesn't get tangled, with analog connections. Leave that other nonsense at the door.
