If one person likes one more than the other then let him/her be. You're not going to change anyone's opinion arguing about it on a forum. Let people like what they like (even if you don't agree) and just move on.

As for the Razer headset: I'm torn on the design and skeptical about how beneficial 7.1 (real or simulated) would be. At a certain point the distance between your ear and the drivers must come into play to where you genuinely can't tell the difference between the amount of drivers. I don't know if it's 7.1, 8.1, or 120.1, but it's eventually going to be little more than a gimmick in terms of practicality.
Hey if you want to enjoy something that is physically inferior that brings absolutely nothing to the table except for a higher price tag that's your deal. They sound worse, don't give better positional audio (which is what these are ADVERTISED for), and are aimed at people who don't know what they're doing. You figure it out.

No, Razer doesn't have the best track record of making great headsets. But the things don't even exist on the market yet. Relax.
It doesn't need to be reviewed to know they'll be bad. Multiple drivers in headsets have been done before, and they've always been terrible...they're physically made worse than their 2-driver counterparts. It's impossible to make these things work as advertised. You're the one calling us audiophiles by the way, not me.

No, as I said earlier, headphones that are just 1 big driver in each ear give better positional audio than these...and can be had cheaper.

take 8 speakers, have one put on the floor under you and ignore (thats your subwoofer, it has no location cues to it) now cram the remaining seven an inch from your ears, each with varrying volume and tinnyness, and try and find a way you can accuractely tell the exact direction.

oh and try and find a proper way of splitting 7 between two ears, one earcup is going to have to be overly dominant and thus all sound will be shifted slightly that direction too.

compare that to stereo headphones with a HRTF fucntion enabled like is already done to this video
so either this or £20 for a soundcard for

@ragingcain: How many ears do you have? 2. Your brain does all the work discerning where audio is "coming from" your ears' shape have a little bit to do with, but 99.99% of the work is done by the brain, which is pretty easy to trick.

The difference of `true` surround sound @ less than 1in from the ear canal opening is going to be negligible.
Heres an example completely unrelated to headphones, but still in the audio spectrum that makes this make more sense.

I have $500, and a very small room which I want to put a home theater system in. I can go out and purchase one of those cheapo boxed 7.1 systems for $499.99 and be set with a set of cheap component speakers and tweaters, and a garbage subwoofer with an 'okay' receiver.
OR
I can go buy 2 decent full dynamic range towers, and a pretty decent receiver, and achieve better sound with much the same positioning since I can just use the Dolby3d virtual surround of my good receiver.

Its the same situation, positional audio is negligible when there isn't much room for the audio to come from. I.e. An enemy player is walking 15 feet behind you at 270* from your current facing position. 15 feet behind you is a wall in real life. You CANNOT possibly place the audio actually 15 feet behind you... but a simple time delay can trick your brain into thinking there is an audio source 15 feet behind you.

I used to own some razer "true" 5.1 headsets back 5 years ago and they were absolutely crap.

Dosnt having so many drives so close to you're your ears on a closed can cause a bunch of sound bouncing all over inside your cans? With my old razers it felt like the sound was just a foggy mass of audio, sound was everywhere and I couldn't positions anyone... Not to mention the soundstage had as much depth as my grados LOL.

I as completely blow away the moment I heard the ad700s that I now own. I'm so happy I discovered this wonderful world of high end audio... Just purchased the MTPC after owning S4s for so long...
