2500k overclocking help

Thread Starter
So, I have been trying to stabilize my CPU overclock for quite some time now. My main goal is to get to 4.5ghz OC on the 2500k but it just doesn't seem like it wants too go that high.

This is what I have tried so far

Just tried

4.5 ghz at 1.390 volts with LLC at 4 BSOD
4.5 ghz at 1.390 volts with LLC at 5 BSOD
4.4 ghz at 1.375 volts with LLC at 4 BSOD
4.4 ghz at 1.375 volts with LLC at 5 BSOD
4.1 ghz at AUTO voltage(minimum voltage goes to 1.27v, defaults at 1.30v)

The only way I can stabilize at 4.5ghz, is by having my voltage at 1.360v with LLC at 7.

At LLC 7, my voltage spikes to anywhere from 1.404v to 1.428v.

I'm looking to keep this computer around for 4+ years and in all honesty, isn't 1.4v + for 4.5ghz extremely high? Now, my temps are fine.. I don't get past 62 degrees but still : /.

If needed, I can post pictures of my bios settings.

1.4v for 4.5Ghz is more than you need. Could you please post screenshots of your bios settings?

I had the same issue as you. Except I needed about 1.42-1.43 vcore to hit 4.5..

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...-me-bit-3.html

Check out that thread, it has a lot of information and every BIOs tweak that I did to get my 2500k to run at 4.5Ghz with 1.28-1.3 vcore.

Post back with your results and if you have better luck!

1.4 for 4.5 is extremely high. I had the same issue and it turned out ot be a bad chip. I just could not get 4.5 or above stable with very high vcore. Hopefully that's not your issue!

Alrite, I'll read through that post and figure it out.

Thanks.

I'll post screenshots of my bios if I'm unlucky.

Also, I got this chip 5 days ago... So, if the chip is bad, amazon would give me a refund or exchange right?

Yeah I know.. It scared me there for a bit, but with the help of some others here on the forums and some other threads I found around the internet, I finally got my vcore dropped by a little over 50% and it's still running 4.5Ghz /w 1.29-1.3 vcore today.

Seriously thought I had a bad chip, but I guess it was just how my motherboard's BIOs needed to be twiddled and configured to get it to run at that.

The chip itself is not bad, it just doesn't overclock well.

You CAN return it depending on the store you purchased it from, and the reason why your returning it.. You obviously can't say your returning it because it doesn't OC well, so I would try to make up a good excuse.. xD

IBT is a little over the top, try just using P95.

IBT - Short term.
P95 - Long term.

But hey, 1.31 is better than 1.4+
