[CNN]90% of Gamers Don't Finish Their Games - Page 17

I always finish my games...and if I don't finish them, I haven't started them yet. So yeah. I have tons of games I've bought over the years on steam deals that I haven't even played yet...but every game I start, I finish. <3 Single player games. I always play single player BEFORE I go to multi.

They probably just couldn't wait to run here and complain about the game.

Guilty.
one thing i always hated about some of the games is for 99% of it it is a cake walk, then they toss this boss at me that is 50times as much work (and work it becomes) .
about 40deaths later, i am looking for my first clue to finishing this "boss" be it having to coordinate 10 actions at once in time, or beat some huge monster. Finnaly i find out the boss goes down if you blow 3 times in his ear, tug on his tail twice, and do a tap dance. 5 hours trying to beat the thing, and the programmer had set up some insane action that does it in 3 moves. Only to find out 5 minutes later that 3 steps to the left and one to the right and crouch, and the moster couldn't even touch me.
How was i going to figure that out?

after being demeaned by boss after boss to get to the next level, for the usual milk runs, and slaughterfests, where everything dies in the first shot, by the time i get to the BIG Boss, the Hard puzzel, the big showstopper, the end game, the "win".
I imagine what it would be like to spend another 20 hours awake , having my brains bashed in and re-spawning. I watch the last video and , and call it a day.

It is rare that I don't finish a game and lot of that has to do with the fact that I do my research before buying. If I'm going to spend $40-$50 on a game, I'm damn well getting my monies worth. I'm bit older, have a wife, a job, teenager, etc so I can't spend all day or night or weekend playing my games, so the first go around usually takes several months. I could never understand the point of finishing as quick as possible, I try to make the game last as long as I can....

Umm.... a few things...

First, kind of a sad reflection of the instant-gratification ADHD ritalin kiddies that have been manufactured in the last decade.

I *enjoy* the games I purchase. It took me about 3 weeks of 'taking a break here or there' to play Portal 2. I only played a couple of levels at a time... I wanted to take my time and enjoy it. I think my 2 longest gaming sessions on P2 were about an hour and a half combined.

That being said, I finish most of the games I play. By that, I mean taking my time, enjoying content in the game and savoring it until I've seen and done everything reasonable. I don't specifically look for easter eggs or hidden content, not that many publishers include much anymore and I don't care about achievements.

I've probably purchased and played 100+ games over the last 20 years, I've failed to finish less than 10 of those. However, I don't buy games like I used to... most games suck these days.

Which final mission did they define?
The first final one where John is killed, or the later non story mission one as Jack where you kill the person who killed your father?

I like open world games... so I usually burn out on them (Fallout 3/NV) before I finish them. Some of them (GTA) I'm still not done playing. But lately, with FPS's and linear games, I've actually been finishing them (BF2, CoD, HL2). I don't buy too many games for the story.

this=me

especially with RTS games, which is what i play alot. I get them for multiplayer and skirmish.

only shooters i play are for multiplayer.

honestly the only games i can finish are console games or adventure/rpg games on pc. I cant finish anything else at all

too bad i got rid of my xbox 360 for a computer a long time ago, ive never looked back

This is where I sit. I finish fewer and fewer games nowadays, and I agree that it mostly comes down to not having all the time in the world, so I don't care to waste my free time on some sub-par game. When I get bored with a game, I move on and go back to whatever multiplayer game I am playing at the time
