Worth going from GTS 450 to 6870?

Thread Starter
I noticed today that all high-end AMD cards are coming with a free copy of Deus Ex HR (which I really want) and it got me thinking that now might be a good time to upgrade. Is it worthwhile to go to a 6870 from a 450, or should I get something better?

I was looking at Anand's GPU Bench and 6870 seems to be a pretty big improvement in most games, but I'm not sure. I was also thinking about maybe a 6950, but I don't want to get something too good that will be bottleneck by my CPU either.

As far as specific cards I was looking at this one. When you consider it comes with a rebate and two games which cost $50 on Steam right now it seems like a pretty good deal, but I'm also open to suggestions. I'm not sure who is the best manufacturer of AMD cards as far as warranty and support.

Thanks

Absolutely worth it.

The GTS 450 felt about on par (overall) with HD 4850, in some ways approaching the 4870. All of which in almost all cases got their butts handed to them by the GTX 460 768mb, GTX 465 and HD 5830. ... And the 6850 seems to perform in between the 5850 and 5870, all of which would feel like a noticeable but not dramatic improvement over GTX 460/465 and HD 5830...

So that's my convoluted way (after using/reviewing all mentioned cards except HD 5850/5870) of saying that going from GTS 450 to HD 6850 is gonna be liek WAOW.

No, the 6850 is noticeably slower than the HD 5850 and is on par with the GTX 460 and GTX 465.

When both are overclocked, the GTX 460 is almost identical with the HD 6870 in performance.

6870 consumes about 50w more GTS450 but big performance increase. A good upgrade. That antec 520 unit can do 40A on 12v so it should be fine.

XFX is probably the best vendor for ATI cards. Lifetime warranty if I'm not mistaken. That would be a huge increase according to reviews and the 6870 is a cool running card as well.

I'd step it up a bit and get the 6950. It wouldn't be bottlenecked by your CPU.
