[develop-online] Newell: We have to convince EA to come back - Page 10

These were Rs. 999 when I pre-ordered which was about 20 days ago.
1000 INR = 21 USD (approximate) (yes I pre-ordered BF3 for 21 USD)

You guys in the west really get ripped off on pre-order.

I can't complain

Its not that I dislike the client Origin, its that I fear by supporting it it will make other publishers follow suit.

I didnt spend 1500 USD on this pc so I can start my list of compromises to publishers with bad PR, I enjoy the work by DICE but that doesnt mean I will overlook EA's business practices and what it can spell for the PC Gamer

I don't use steam but I used origin and it seems okay. While it causes some inconveniences for the public who are just used to having everything on steam, we need to realize we don't live in a perfect world and EA is doing what they think is beneficial for them. Just live with it.

what is wrong with you people? Competition is GREAT. its why steam is such an awesome service and why it could become an even better one. Wishing Origin's failure is not very productive.

besides if you lived in an area that had an awesome fruit store and a new one opened up and offered great deals, wouldn't you buy from it and support them?
But in this case, before you can actually eat a piece of fruit, you'd first have to call them up and ask: Hey, can I eat my fruit now? Yea, they say, as long as you keep on the phone while doing so...
Also, if you'd buy from the other store as well, you'd have to store their fruits at the opposite end of your house, so if you buy loads of fruit you'll always be wasting time running from one end to another.
(Okay, not 100% correct but you get the point)

In other words, it's just plain inconvenient.

Gotta agree here.

I also like my games in one place. As such i've grown to like Steam and i won't use any other program.

On the downside, Steam is a pita. It's backup feature is broken and the fact that - as you said - you need to log in even in offline mode is stupid.

I can't even "appear" offline to certain friends, i have to set my mode to "offline" and when i do so, it blocks your view of your friends list. Stupid. Sort it out Valve.

STEAM needs some work done, alot of work done and has done so for years. The longer they don't adress these issues, the quicker some other program (Origin) will come along and take it's place - and i'll be the first one to rub it in Valves face.

Now with origin on the scene they might finally pull their finger out and improve Steam. If they don't then they're fools.

No matter what I do, or purchase this game~ it's going to tie me to Origin. I don't have a choice in the matter when it comes to facing this software in one way or the other.

I bought Battlefield:Bad Company 2 awhile back on steam. You can not buy it on steam anymore, however I can still download my purchased game.

Interestingly enough, I had to register the game to an EA account. After I did that the game poped up in my origin games list. So, currently I can download the game from Steam or Origin and they use the same key!

Ah, and this was the big complaint when Valve games started to require Steam. I remember DETESTING steam when found out I had to use it. I had purchased HL2 and had to register it on Steam. I had dial-up at the time and it would not let me play my game until it patched. Since I was only able to get access to the phone line in the afternoon, it took me several days to get the game patched and running. I was FURIOUS!

Like every Steamworks game do with Steam, and yet most peoiple here call that a "feature", some even hoping the game will use Steamworks when a game is announced.

Seems a bit counterproductive, doesn't it?
