Find me a brand new Model M for $30.
Then find me a Brand new Cherry keyswitch board for cheap
Its a lot easier to find the cherry (thats mass produced still) than the model M (thats discontinued)
A new Unicomp is $80, and the keycaps on it beat practically any Cherry board. Cherry dye subs are $150+ a set.

Model M's look fugly and as if you are stuck in the 80s. I'd never use such an old looking keyboard, this is 2011, we have nice things now.

This is fugly

This is not

Without being as abrasive about it, I agree with the sentiment of this post. Aesthetics play a part in all of this.

I like the look of the Model M and the Ducky. Both of them look good in their own way, you just have to have an open enough mind to see it.

Aesthetics are all very subjective.

Even still, if you're looking at your keyboard while using it, you're doing it wrong.

Aesthetics depends totally on tastes. I personally think Model Ms look pretty good in person, though I'm a fan of beige. (though like black shapes play a lot into things - angular beige like IBM's PS/2 systems IMO look pretty awesome while the later round stuff looks pretty bad)

An open mind doesn't change anything on my desk to white Or worse, beige.

But then beige equipment is a bit...cheerier. Brightens up your desk.

Uh cuz I like lighter switches than heavy buckling springs. And its newer and don't have to get one where sumone else touched them

Yeah, I was talking about why I don't like the Model M. I don't look at the keyboard, but others see it, and I see it when I look at my setup. I like my stuff to look nice and new, not old.
